Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.
– Marvel has released a first look at the upcoming Inhumans show, featuring the wig playing Medusa’s hair, and the rest of the main cast: Eme Ikwuakor (Gorgon), Ken Leung (Karnak), Anson Mount (Black Bolt), Serinda Swan (Medusa), Isabelle Cornish (Crystal), and Iwan Rheon (Maximus). Along with the photo, showrunner Scott Buck gave a few teases of what viewers can expect, and confirmed that it will share a universe with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. He did stop short of confirming a crossover, however, only saying, “Things that have happened on S.H.I.E.L.D. will potentially affect our show as well.” Buck was also responsible for the widely panned Iron Fist, so temper expectations accordingly.
– Due to a new deal with Marvel, Rocket Raccoon co-creator Bill Mantlo has moved out of the nursing home where he has spent the last 25 years. Mantlo sustained permanent brain damage when he was hit by a car in 1992, and has been in the nursing home ever since. Multiversity Comics even ran a campaign before Guardians of the Galaxy was released to help raise funds for the numerous costs. The brand new house has been built next door to his brother (and guardian) Mike Mantlo, who said that they will be able to provide in-home care for the rest of his life.
– Karl Kesel and Tom Grummett’s “Section Zero” may make a return via Kickstarter. The series originally ran for three issues in 2000, before some personal issues from the creators caused it to be shelved. The planned release will be a graphic novel that will include all of the previously released material, plus about three issues worth of new material.
– The Lakes International Comic Art Festival will release “The Spirit of the Eisner,” a Will Eisner and “The Spirit” tribute. The 12 page comic will be released in newspaper form as an homage to Eisner’s original work and features a cover by Becky Cloonan, along with pages by Sergio Aragonés, Ed Brubaker & Sean Phillips, John M. Burns, Michael Cho, Graham Dury & Simon Thorp, Jason Latour, Brendan McCarthy, Peter Milligan & Duncan Fegredo, and broadcaster Jonathan Ross & Seth. The festival will start on October 13, 2017.
– Josh Gad is teasing Batman fans by tweeting out a picture of the penguin, causing many to speculate that he’ll be joining Matt Reeve’s Batfleck film. Nothing has been confirmed at this time, but anyone else hoping for a Batman musical?
– Polygon wrote up a piece on how this week’s “Poe Dameron” #14 functions as a fitting eulogy for Carrie Fisher. You can read our own review of the issue right here.
– Warner Bros has released the official logo for Aquaman and announced that they have officially started filming. The film is “currently set for a 2018 release.”
