– Wonderbound is set to release a new book about the power of Poop. Via The Beat, the Vault Comics imprint has announced the middle-grade graphic novel “Hello, My Name Is Poop,” written by Ben Katzner, drawn by Ian McGinty, colored by Fred C. Stresing, and lettered by Andworld Design. The story follows Will Poupé, a middle schooler who is given the unkind nickname of Poop by his peers. However, when the janitor reveals himself to be a wizard in disguise, Will learns that Poop is a Name of Power — a name which gives you special abilities. The Beat also has a sneak peek at some pages from the new book, which drops this October.

The Hollywood Reporter published a story digging into the pre-production of the upcoming Superman film from Warner Bros. and DC that is set to feature a Black Superman. The previously announced film will be scripted by Ta-Nehisi Coates. While details of the story are reportedly still being crafted, sources said the film will not be part of the previously established DC Expanded Universe. Coates is currently building the story “in the vein of the original Superman comics,” featuring a Kal-El that hails from Krypton. The article also noted that the search for a director is pitting DC Films and Marvel Studios against one another in their search for a Black director, as Marvel gears up to hire a helmer for Blade. Neither project is rushing towards production, however – Coates’s Superman draft is due in December, and production on Blade has been pushed to a July 2022 start date.

– Speaking of Marvel Studios, their upcoming Loki series has bumped up its premiere date by a couple of days. Unlike the previous Disney+ shows The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision, both of which premiered their new episodes on Fridays, Loki is making the jump to Wednesdays. The studio made the announcement via a video from star Tom Hiddleston, who lamented the fact that Loki is often left out of the typical superhero montages that Marvel produces. Loki will now premiere on Wednesday, June 9.

Ant-Man and the Wasp actress Hannah John-Kamen is making the jump to another comic book adaptation. The Hollywood Reporter has the news that John-Kamen will star as Red Sonja in the upcoming film from Millennium. The film is being directed by Transparent creator Joey Soloway, who also co-wrote the script with screenwriter Tasha Huo. “Hannah is a very talented actress who we’ve been following for years and she IS Red Sonja,” said Soloway in a statement. “Her range, sensibilities and strength are all qualities we have been looking for and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this journey together.” Red Sonja currently does not have a scheduled release date.

– A film adaptation of the comic series “Lady Killer” by Joëlle Jones and Jamie S. Rich has been set up over at Netflix. Via Deadline, Blake Lively will star in and produce the film, which will be written by Diablo Cody. Lady Killer follows Josie Schuller, a “perfect 1950s housewife” who splits her time catering to the needs of her family, and leading a secret life as a highly-trained killer for hire. The adaptation is part of Netflix’s first look deal with Dark Horse Entertainment, which previously produced The Umbrella Academy and Polar.

CBR has a first look at some of the boss villains of the upcoming board game Rat Queens: To the Slaughter, an adaptation of the popular Image Comics series by Kurtis Weibe produced by Deep Water. The cooperative deck building game, that has players “manage the relationships between the queens and suffer the consequences of their chaotic actions,” will feature a number of villains from the comic, including the Troll Queen, Goose Dragon and N’rygoth. CBR has preview images of the villains’ miniatures and game mechanics ahead of its Kickstarter launch later this summer.

– On their Twitter, ShortBox announced one of their new titles scheduled for release next year. The new comic “A Cat’s Plan” hails from cartoonist Genie Liang, and follows Sammie, a young woman who is gifted a magical diary that allows her to manipulate time. The comic is due out in 2022.
