In case you missed it, BOOM! Studios announced “Dune: House Atreides,” a comic adaptation of the 1999 Dune prequel novel by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

Art by Dylan Burnett & Dean White

– Writer Donny Cates has confirmed to Newsarama that he is working with artist Dylan Burnett and colorist Dean White on a spin-off to “God Country.” Cates had previously shared some art on Twitter featuring a large sword, and Cates has now confirmed that the art is from a “God Country”-related project that will see release in some form this summer. “Yes, that book is connected to ‘God Country’ in some way,” he said. “People have been asking me for years, are we ever gonna see another story set in the world of ‘God Country’ or any connections to it. I’ve always said ‘no’ – but I also have to remind everyone that I’ve always said I’m a liar by trade.” Cates confirmed neither an exact release date nor what form the project would be released in, but he indicated that it would hopefully be available some time in June.

Entertainment Weekly has a first look at the upcoming sequel to the “Snowpiercer” prequel, “Snowpiercer: The Prequel Part 2: Apocalypse” from Titan Comics. The book comes from writer Matz and artist Jean-Marc Rochette, who co-created the original story under its French title “Le Transperceneige” with Jacques Lob back in 1982. That original story saw a surge in popularity following the film adaptation by director Bong Joon-ho in 2013, with an English translation coming from Titan Comics in 2014 and several new volumes in the series. The upcoming comic, a sequel to 2019’s “Part 1: Extinction,” will hit shelves August 25.

– As the comics industry continues to shift during the ongoing pandemic, DC Comics is taking the opportunity to make additional shifts to their old distribution schedule. Via Newsarama, DC has eliminated the previous six-day exclusivity window that allowed comic shops to receive OGNs and collections prior to the book market. The move will create a concurrent release date for all of the company’s new releases across all retailers on Tuesdays.

– The many changes that have come to DC over the course of the year so far–including the departure of Editor-in-Chief Dan DiDio and the coronavirus-mandated publishing stoppage–have also rippled out to the company’s story plans. In an interview with Den of Geek on the upcoming “Dark Nights: Death Metal,” writer Scott Snyder “DC changed first. Dan [DiDio] left, and on top of that, the line changed in terms of what we were planning after 2020.” He continued, “The only thing that changed is the context. And what changed when the landscape for DC changed on the other side of it, and when editorial changed with Dan exiting, was just that we no longer had to be constrained by any timeframe of what was going to happen on the other side at all, so we got to expand.” That shift in DC’s future plans could mean the delay–or cancellation–of their long rumored 5G storyline. After its COVID-19 delay, “Dark Nights: Death Metal” #1 will hit shelves on June 16.

– Kickstarter’s Comic Outreach Lead Camilla Zhang confirmed that she was among the 40 percent of Kickstarter’s staff to be laid off. In a statement released on Twitter, Zhang shared heartfelt messages to her coworkers, collaborators, and to the union Kickstarter United, which helped negotiate a severance package for her and other laid off employees. During her tenure at Kickstarter, Zhang created the Small Press, Big Ideas initiative with Small Press Expo, and brought in more than $16 million in pledges in her category each year. Her severance package includes a year of recall rights, which could allow her to return to the company at a later date.

– Artist Brent Schoonover shared a trailer for his upcoming series with writer Benjamin Percy and colorist Nick Filardi on Twitter. Coming from AWA Studios, their upcoming series “Devil’s Highway” follows a young woman who returns home on a quest to hunt down the serial killer that brutally murdered her father – only to discover he is just one piece of a national network of evil that snakes across the entire country. The book is due to hit shelves in July.

– In an unfortunate bit of news, artist Tess Fowler is currently battling breast cancer. Tess and her husband Chris–with an assist from her “Dungeons & Dragons: A Darkened Wish” co-creator B. Dave Walters–have set up a GoFundMe to help support her care, which blew past its first goal in less than a day. Tess took to Twitter to thank those who provided support, saying, “Me and [Chris] are so overwhelmed and grateful. It’s been such a terrifying time. This has made it look far less bleak.” The GoFundMe has a new goal of $50,000, aiming to help Tess and Chris stay financially stable for as long as possible.

– Animator Genndy Tartakovsky’s long plotted Popeye film may still see the light of day. Via Animation Magazine, Tartakovsky will team with King Features to develop the project. He was first linked to Popeye back in 2012 via a now-abandoned Sony Pictures Animation release. King Features, meanwhile, has been making moves to produce updated adaptations of their classic comics properties, including the 2D cartoon Popeye’s Island Adventures, which launched on YouTube in 2018.

Via Deadline, The CW has picked up Swamp Thing for U.S. broadcasting. The well-reviewed series, which ran for a single season in 2019 on DC Universe, was cancelled amidst murky reports of creative differences, budget shortfalls, and scheduling mismanagement. Although The CW often picks up shows in this manner to fill their summer programming gap, it’s possible that Swamp Thing could air in the fall to help give their shows that saw coronavirus delays more time to produce new episodes. The network is expected to unveil their fall slate of programming on Thursday.

– COVID-19 has interrupted the production of Japan’s longest running cartoon. From Reuters, the show Sazae-san, which is adapted from the comic strips by Machiko Hasegawa, will be switching to re-runs for the first time in 45 years. The show, which has aired every Sunday since 1969, last went to re-runs in February 1975 during a global economic crisis caused by disruptions in the oil industry.
