– Dark Horse has offered some updates regarding the “Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures” release schedule. “Issues #5-8 will be released on a condensed schedule, so readers can enjoy the complete Phase II story by the end of June,” the publisher says of the series. “Issue #5 will go on sale on May 31, while issues 6, 7, and 8 will all be released together on June 28.” The all-ages series is written by Daniel José Older with art from Harvey Tolibao. Set in the days of the High Republic, it follows the Jedi Padawan Sav Malagan, with the current phase seeing her protecting the city of Jedha from the Dank Graks.
– “The United States of Captain America’s” Aaron Fischer has returned in a new Infinity Comic on Marvel Unlimited. The latest installment of the app’s romance anthology, “Love Unlimited: Aaron Fischer Captain America,” by Josh Trujillo, Cara McGee, and Felipe Sobreiro, will explore the origins of the Captain America of the Railways. The story will see Fischer return to the hometown that rejected him when his ex-boyfriend calls for help. “Love Unlimited: Aaron Fischer Captain America” #49-54 will be available weekly every Thursday, with issue #49 out now.
– Publishers Weekly shares First Second Books will publish “Rox, Piper & Snips,” a YA graphic novel by Jade Armstrong (“Scout Is Not a Band Kid”). The book follows a “magical team of teenage girls who are short-staffed, burned out, and struggling to balance their normal lives with their jobs as heroes.” It is set to be released in 2025.
– 2000 AD tweeted that “Judge Dredd” co-creator Carlos Ezquerra will have a street named after him in his hometown of Zaragoza, Spain. The late creator will be honored alongside the singer Corita Viamonte, and the late actress Laura Gómez-Lacueva. Up to nine streets and three pedestrian walkways in the city’s Sestrica municipality are set to be renamed. Ezquerra died in 2018, a month before he would’ve turned 71.
– In an effort to revitalize their Books app with the webtoon format, Apple has signed a three-year contract with South Korea’s Kenaz. “North America doesn’t really have a significant lead player in webtoons yet,” Kenaz founder and chief executive Woody Lee said of the deal, which was inked last December. “Apple Books has a chance at becoming a competitive player in this field pretty quickly.” Lee went on to say he expects 30% of Kenaz’s output would premiere on Apple Books before other outlets. Gladiator co-writer David Franzoni has been tapped to adapt the Academy Award-winner into the online comic format. French writer Bernard Werber is also set to adapt his novel trilogy Ants.
– AMC released the first trailer for The Walking Dead: Dead City, giving us our first glimpse of zombie-infested Manhattan. Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan reprise their roles as Maggie and Negan, who arrive in New York to search for her missing son. The series is set to debut on June 8.
– Family Matters star Jaleel White will have a role in an upcoming Disney+ Star Wars series. He announced it during an Edmonton Oilers game. In an interview with SportsNet, White confirmed that he would be playing a pirate in Skeleton Crew. “I had to do two hours of makeup every day,” White says of his role in the series. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew stars Jude Law, and is set to premiere on the streamer by the end of this year.
– Finally, Park Chan-wook’s Oldboy will return to theaters on August 16. The Korean cult classic, based on the manga of the same name, celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The movie follows Dae-Su (Choi Min-sik), who goes on a revenge spree after 15 years of captivity. The re-release will be “restored and remastered.” You can view the trailer here.
