– DC have announced “Dark Nights: Death Metal” one-shot specials being released this August. The two specials, “Dark Nights: Death Metal Guidebook” and “Dark Nights: Death Metal Legends of the Dark Knights” #1 both compliment “Death Metal” #3, which goes on sale August 11. “Death Metal Guidebook” is set to release August 17 with stories by Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Joshua Williamson, Becky Cloonan, Chip Zdarsky, Dan Panosian, and more. “Death Metal Legends of the Dark Knights” #1 is set to release a week later on August 25, with stories by Snyder, Tynion, Frank Tieri, Daniel Warren Johnson, Garth Ennis, and more. “Death Metal” #1 releases June 24.

– Yen Press have announced plans for English translations of two manga series set in the Star Wars universe. Yen Press, alongside Lucasfilm, will publish “Star Wars: Rebels,” written and illustrated by Akira Aoki, based on the animated series, and “Star Wars: Leia, Princess of Alderaan” by Haruichi Furudate, an adaptation of the young adult novel of the same name by Claudia Gray. Both series will be published both in print and digitally this fall, though no official release date has been announced.

– Z2 Comics have revealed that the Grammy-nominated rock band Skillet is teaming up with the publisher once again for a sequel to the 2019 graphic novel “Eden,” set to release this fall. “Eden II: The Aftermath” reunites the creative team from the first novel (Ryan O’Sullivan, John Cooper, and Chris Hunt) to continue the story of a family looking for a promised land in the middle of a post-apocalyptic wasteland. The sequel will be released in a standard edition as well as a limited deluxe edition, which includes exclusive artwork, exclusive music, and a slipcase signed by the band. The book is scheduled to release this October, and is currently available for pre-order.

– Diamond’s comeback to comic stores has hit a bump in the road as some of DC’s titles planned for May 18 have not made it to the distributor’s warehouse in time for shipment. The titles will be delayed by one week and will be scheduled for release on May 26. The titles include “Batman & the Outsiders” #12, “DC Super Stars #17 Facsimile Edition, “Hawkman” #23, “House of Whispers” #20, “Joker/Harley: Criminal Sanity” #4, “The Flash” #753, “The Green Lantern: Season Two” #3, “Wonder Woman” #755, “Year of the Villain: Hell Arisen” #3, and “Flash Giant” #4.

– Diamond founder Steve Geppi has confirmed that the terms of their agreement with DC have changed and that DC is non-exclusive, which has allowed them to sell and distribute through Lunar and UCS. Geppi has explained that in DC’s last contract renewal, they had asked to add a clause that would allow them to get out of the exclusive part with 60 days notice, which they exercised when the pandemic hit. Geppi has also stated that DC told him the decision to explore a “multi-distributor model” would be temporary.

– Joel Kupperman, Michael Kupperman‘s father and the subject of his book, “All the Answers,” passed away last month at the age of 83, from an “influenza-like illness.” Michael Kupperman shared the New York Times obituary, which highlights his father’s life, from being a contestant on Quiz Kids, to becoming a philosophy professor. Read the obituary here.

– Netflix has landed Ball and Chain, a feature film based on the ’90s comic of the same name by Scott Lobell and Alé Garza, which will team up Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson. The comic is to be adapted by Oscar nominee Emily V. Gordon. Blunt and Johnson will play a struggling married couple who have superpowers, which only work when they are together. Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia are set to produce for Seven Bucks Productions, while Blunt will make her producing debut with Ledbury Productions.

– The CW have announced that it won’t be debuting new original scripted shows this coming fall. Due to the production shutdowns, the network will be holding most of its scripted content until January 2021. Riverdale and most of the network’s superhero shows will return in January, alongside the debut of Superman & Lois. (Season six of Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow will premiere later, while Katy Keene‘s renewal is still pending.) See here for more on The CW’s 2020-2021 airing schedule.

– The CW have also announced a Superman and Batwoman crossover event, which comes after the straight-to-series order handed to Superman & Lois. Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz has revealed it would be a smaller, two-hour event pairing the two superheroes, and hopes for a debut in the first or second quarter of 2021.

– Finally, Variety has revealed that Never Have I Ever star Darren Barnet will be guest-starring on the season 7 premiere of ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. In the opening of the final season, the agents are brought back to 1931 New York City, where they will encounter Barnet’s character. It has not been revealed how many episodes Barnet will be featured in. Season 7 premieres May 27 at 10 p.m. on ABC.
