-Fox has unveiled the first full trailer for The Gifted, the network’s new X-Men-inspired TV series set to debut this fall. Several established X-Men characters are known to play a part in the show, including Blink (played by Jamie Chung), Polaris (Emma Dumont) and Thunderbird (Blair Redford) which appear to be present in the trailer. Based on the following line of dialogue, “The X-Men, the Brotherhood — we don’t even know if they exist anymore.” The Gifted will have some type of connection to the larger continuity already established by the films.
-DC Entertainment has released specific details around “Wonder Woman Day.” Taking place place on June 3, the celebration will coincide with the opening weekend of the theatrical release of the upcoming film, Wonder Woman. The celebration will honor the 75-year legacy of the character with festivities around the world. Over 2,000 comic retailers, bookstores, libraries and other partners around will host “Wonder Woman Day” activities, including distributing free copies of two special edition issues: ‘Wonder Woman Day Special Edition #1’ reprints “Wonder Woman #1” by writer Greg Rucka and artist Liam Sharp. For young readers, “DC Super Hero Girls Wonder Woman Day Special Edition” #1 features a chapter from the upcoming “DC Super Hero Girls Vol. 3: Summer Olympus,” written by Shea Fontana with art by Yancey Labat. In addition to the issues, exclusive Wonder Woman tiaras and bracelets will be available at select retailers.
– On May 15th during a Facebook Q&A James Gunn (the director of the Guardians Of The Galaxy films) revealed that Adam Warlock would not be appearing in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War. Despite his introduction into the Marvel Cinematic Universe during an after credit scene in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2. Gunn stated: “Adam Warlock will not be in Infinity War… He will have a future in the MCU. But will it be in Infinity War? It will not.” This comes as a bit of surprise given the prominent position the Adam Warlock character has played in Marvel’s cosmic themed comic stories of the past, including the well known mini-series “The Infinity Gauntlet.”
– Writer Greg Pak and artist Takeshi Miyazawa, the co-creators of “Totally Awesome Hulk” have reunited for “Mech Cadet Yu” from BOOM! Studios. “Mech Cadet Yu” is set in a world where giant robots arrive on Earth from outer space to bond with cadets from the Sky Corps Academy in order to defend the world from evil aliens. The story not only contains giant robots, but specifically features a diverse cast of characters, including kid heroes who are Asian-American. Pak explains that “Kids need and deserve to see faces like theirs in the stories they read so they can be affirmed that they do indeed belong, that they have all the value of everyone else in this world.” The four-issue miniseries set to debut in August.
-Image Comics’ series “Wayward” has been optioned for development as a “Japanese animated or live action series” by one of the UK’s largest anime distributors, Manga Entertainment. Series writer Jim Zub and artist Steven Cummings will serve as creative consultants on the project, handling the development of the original story treatment and character designs. “Wayward” follows main character Rori Lane as she comes to Japan to reunite with her mother but finds that she possesses’ ancient powers that attract supernatural creatures living in Tokyo. No production timeline for the “Wayward” adaptation has been given yet.
– The writing team of Marc Bernardin and Adam Freeman along with artist Rosi Kampe follow-up the 2014 series “Genius” with “Genius: Cartel.” The sequel will pick up with 17-year-old Destiny Ajaye placed in a government facility for prodigies after unifying her neighborhood’s gangs against the police. “Genius: Cartel” arrives on shelves August 16th from Top Cow.
-As part of Fox’s marketing efforts for the upcoming X-Men-inspired TV series The Gifted, in-character agents from Sentinel Services – complete with a Mutant Testing Center vehicle – were on-site at Fox’s Upfronts presentation Monday at New York City’s Beacon Theatre. The viral marketing campaign offered actual DNA testing under the guise of mutant gene testing. Participants received an “I Got Tested” sticker and actual genetic results mailed to them in approximately four weeks.
– A sequel to the 2013 video game LEGO Marvel Super Heroes is in developmentfor release this holiday season. The sequel will introduce new gameplay features including the ability for characters to manipulate time and a four-player competitive Superhero battling mode. The primary villain of the game will be Kang the Conqueror who is set to do battle with the primary Marvel heroes across the “open hub world” Chronopolis and into “Ancient Egypt, The Old West, Sakaar and New York City in 2099.” Along with the classic lineup of playable heroes, Spider-Man 2099 and “Cowboy Captain America” will also be available. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2 is scheduled for release November 14 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC consoles, with a Nintendo Switch released planned for later in the year.
