– BOOM! Studios announced a new “Mech Cadets” comic, reuniting original “Mech Cadet Yu” creators Greg Pak and Takeshi Miyazawa. Colored by Ian Herring, the new volume will continue the adventures of Stanford Yu, Olivia Park, Maya Sanchez, and Frank Olivetti, as they contend with an increasingly strained relationship with the Sky Corps Generals, and the prospect of a renewed Sharg invasion. It will begin on August 9, the day before the animated series premieres on Netflix.

Following a leak, Marvel decided to reveal the character who will die in this month’s “The Amazing Spider-Man” #26, as well as the full name and creative team of July’s follow-up special “Fallen Friend.” Marvel had originally intended to reveal these details on the day of the comic’s release (May 31), until pages from a copy were posted on Reddit. Head to the links to find out the identity of the “Fallen Friend,” and the creators (whose names would give it away here) memorializing them, before the one-shot’s release on July 12.

– Dark Horse announced a print edition of last year’s comiXology series “Census,” written by Marc Bernardin and Adam Freeman with art by Sebastián Piriz. The horror series followed Liam Malone, a new recruit at the Census Bureau, who is assigned to register the supernatural creatures of New York, including demons and djinn. The collection will be released on January 23, 2024, and retail at 152 pages for $22.99.

– DH also revealed a deluxe edition of Yasuhiro Nightow’s sci-fi western “Trigun,” reprinting every issue, will be released in December, along with a five-part series reprinting the sequel, “Trigun Maximum Deluxe Edition,” beginning in April 2024. In other reprint news, Image announced “Octopus Pie: The Complete Series Box Set,” collecting all five volumes of Meredith Gran’s webcomic, will be released in September.

– Marvel Studios made two Disney+ release date announcements: firstly, Loki season two will begin streaming on October 6, 2023. Secondly, in a first for a live-action Marvel Disney+ series, every episode of Echo will be released simultaneously on November 29, 2023. Echo, which is a spin-off for Alaqua Cox’s Hawkeye character, is the first Marvel Studios project with a Native American protagonist, and will arrive the Wednesday after Native American Heritage Day (Friday, November 24).

– Lucasfilm, meanwhile, revealed the first four Indiana Jones films, and The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones series, will be added to Disney+ on May 31. They will arrive a month ahead of Dial of Destiny‘s theatrical release on June 30. This marks the first time Lucasfilm has reissued The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones since the DVD releases in 2007 and 2008. The series consists of 22 feature-length episodes compiled from four TV movies, and the original hour-long ABC show, which will not be available as it aired à la the original, unaltered Star Wars trilogy.

– Deadline reported Chiwetel Ejiofor has joined the cast of Venom 3 in an unnamed role. Ejiofor is no stranger to Marvel, having played both versions of Baron Mordo in the MCU’s Doctor Strange films. Venom 3 does not currently have an announced release date, but will once again star Tom Hardy, who will also be joined by Juno Temple. It is being directed by Kelly Marcel, who wrote the film’s story with Hardy.

– Netflix released the second trailer for Extraction 2. The second film based on Ande Parks, Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, and Fernando León González’s “Ciudad,” directed by Sam Hargrave, will delve further into the tragic past of Chris Hemsworth’s mercenary Tyler Rake, while he sets out to rescue the kidnapped family of a Georgian gangster. The film, also starring Golshifteh Farahani, Adam Bessa, Olga Kurylenko, Daniel Bernhardt, and Tinatin Dalakishvili, will be released on June 16.

– Finally, Universal Studios Japan’s version of The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man ride will close on January 22, 2024. The ride opened there nearly 20 years before on January 23, 2004, and is the sole Marvel attraction in the park. Per Theme Park Insider, the ride’s closure came about because Disney refused to extend Universal Studios Japan’s license; unlike Universal Orlando, which will maintain the rights to Marvel characters in perpetuity, the park in Osaka only had a 20-year contract. This potentially clears the way for Marvel characters to be used at Tokyo Disneyland; so far, they have only appeared at the Tokyo resort in a limited time hotel room. Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man will continue to operate at Universal Orlando, where it opened in 1999.
