Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics. com.

In case you missed it, Hermes Press will be bringing Dick Tracy back in an all-new noir based graphic novel, KaBOOM! will be releasing an original fantasy graphic novel called “Hotel Dare,” and Ed Piskor (“Hip Hop Family Tree”) discussed his approach to documenting X-Men history in “X-Men: Grand Design.” We also got the exclusive on the Mignolaverse solicitations for August, and Matt Kindt and David Rubín discussed their creator owned series “Ether: The Copper Goblins.”

– Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to the cast of Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel as Mysterio. Gyllenhaal will be joining Tom Holland, who is set to resume the title role, along with Michael Keaton, Zendaya and Marisa Tomei. It is also reported that Jon Watts will resume directorial duties for the sequel, set for released on July 5th, 2019.

– As reported yesterday, Peter Tomasi will be returning to the world of the “Super Sons” for a twelve issue miniseries launching in August. And it looks like current “Super Sons” artist Carlo Barberi will be along for the ride. Despite the cancellation of the current series and rumors that at least one of the Super-Sons (Jon Kent) was going to be removed from the continuity, it appears that DC has big plans for the youthful duo. “Adventures of the Super Sons” by Peter Tomasi and Carlo Barberi will be flying into comic shops everywhere August 1st, 2018.

– Meanwhile Damian Wayne’s future stepmother is showing off her new costume in an exclusive DC Comics preview. The preview gives us a sneak peak at Joelle Jone’s forthcoming Catwoman solo book as well as the brand new Cat-costume that will be be debuting in August’s issue #2. “Catwoman” #1 hits the stands on July 4th 2018.

– Supergirl will be flying in a new direction this August, with a brand new creative team and a fresh start. According to Syfy Wire, the Eisner Award-winning team of Marc Andreyko (“Manhunter”) and Kevin Maguire (“Man of Steel,” “Justice League International”) will be jumping on board with issue #21. And like Catwoman, Supergirl will be getting a brand new costume designed by Jorge Jimenez.

– And to see more of Supergirl, check out the first look at DC Super Hero Girls, a new Cartoon Network series that will be produced by Emmy Award-winner Lauren Faust (My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic). The series, announced last year, will feature Zatanna, Supergirl, Catwoman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern (Jessica Cruz), Bumblebee, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Batgirl and many other DC heroines.

– In other DC Comics news, CBR.com is reporting that fan favorite artist Kelley Jones (“Sandman,” “Swamp Thing”) will be returning to Gotham City for “Kings of Fear,” a six-issue miniseries, illustrated by Jones and written by Scott Peterson (‘Underworld Unleashed’). The series, which will debut in August, will feature the Scarecrow and (judging by the cover) a bevy of other Batman rogues.

To get the best and most comprehensive information on the DC Comics solicitations for August, be sure to check back for our Soliciting Multiversity column next Tuesday at 11am ET.

– In other comics news, The MacDowell Colony is going to be awarding the 59th Edward MacDowell Medal award to renowned writer/cartoonist Art Spiegelman (“Maus,” “Raw”). The ceremony will take place at a free public event on Sunday, Aug. 12, at The MacDowell Colony’s campus in New Hampshire.

– In other indie news, Top Shelf/IDW will be releasing a colorized version of Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell’s controversial series “From Hell.” The new version will represent the classic in full color with Eddie Campbell himself providing the colors (along with minor art corrections). The gory exploration of the Jack the Ripper murders was originally serialized in black and white between 1989 and 1998.

– Finally, Fox’s Lucifer will return briefly with two “bonus” episodes, which were intended to air with the rest of Season 4 but shot before the show’s cancellation. Both episodes will air back-to-back on Monday, May 28th, at 8/7c.
