– In what is truly heartbreaking, tragic news, due to the suicide of his 20-year old daughter, Zack Snyder is stepping away from Justice League. In his place, Avengers director Joss Whedon will be shepherding the film through post-production and minimal reshoots. Whedon had been brought in by Snyder to help with some re-writes for scenes that were to be reshot, so the transition should be reasonably smooth. If you are having suicidal thoughts, the National Suicide Prevention Hotline – 1-800-273-8255 – is available all day, every day, to help. Our thoughts are with the Snyder family.
– Yesterday, Marvel teased a new “Runaways” series with an image of Nico Minoru and the tag like “get ready to Run”. With a live-action adaptation on the way it’s no surprise that the Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona creations are returning to print for a new series. No release date, creative team, or team roster have been announced as of yet.
– Jay Faerber and Sumeyye Kesgin have a new image book, titled “Elsewhere”, which features Amelia Earhart having adventures after her public disappearance – but in a fantasy world. The book is due in August.
– “Green Lantern” artist Robson Rocha has been chosen to be the regular artist on Steve Orlando’s “Supergirl” title starting with issue #12. The issue starts a storyline called ‘Emerald Eradication,’ which continues into August’s Annual as well. Rocha replaces Brian Ching, who launched the series with Orlando last year.
– “Resist!” is a free comic put together by the mother-daughter editing team of Françoise Mouly and Nadja Spiegelman. The first volume was given out for free at January 21st’s Women’s March, and the intention is for the second volume to be given away for free as well. The second volume, titled ‘Grab Back,’ will be 96 pages long and feature work by Roz Chast, Kristin Radtke, Miriam Katin, Cathy Malkasian, Laura Park, Lauren Weinstein, Daniel Clowes, Art Spiegelman, among many others – including many up and coming creators, specifically female creators.
