– Via IGN, new publishing company DSTLRY have announced “The Devil’s Cut,” an oversized one-shot featuring a plethora of talent, including Mirka Andolfo, Brian Azzarello, Marc Bernardin, Elsa Charretier, Becky Cloonan, Lee Garbett, Jock, Joëlle Jones, Tula Lotay, Jamie McKelvie, Junko Mizuno, Stephanie Phillips, Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Ram V, Francesco Francavilla, Ariela Kristantina, Eduardo Risso, and Christian Ward. In a statement, DSTLRY co-founders Chip Mosher and David Steinberger said “‘The Devil’s Cut’ is the perfect debut from DSTLRY, with our Founding Creators and friends delivering an amazing collection of completely self-contained stories. It’s a prime example of the ambition and skill that you can expect from top-flight creators when they’re given the canvas, freedom, and support to create the next generation of comics.” “The Devil’s Cut”#1 will be released both in print and digitally on August 30, 2023, but will stop digital sales on September 6, 2023.
– Marvel have unveiled a new character, Kid Venom, making their debut in “Death of the Venomverse” #2 by Cullen Bunn and artist Gerardo Sandoval. As Carnage rampages throughout the multiverse looking to become the new King in Black, Kid Venom’s adventures will unfold as part of the backup from Cullen Bunn, and Kid Venom creator and mangaka Taigami. Kintaro comes from 10th century Japan and will do anything to save his village from Symbiotes, even bonding with one. “Death of the Venomverse” #2 and Kid Venom will debut August 16, 2023.
– Marvel have also announced, in a collaboration with Hasbro, “Rom: The Original Marvel Years Omnibus” Vol. 1. Reprinting stories by Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema, “Rom: The Original Marvel Years Omnibus” Vol. 1 will collect “Rom” (1979) #1-29 and “Power Man and Iron Fist” (1978) #73. The company also announced “Rom” #1 Facsimile Edition,” a rerelease with ads included. These will mark the first time Marvel has reprinted the series since its original 1979-1985 run. “Rom” #1 Facsimile Edition” will be available in September, while “Rom: The Original Marvel Years Omnibus” Vol. 1 will go on sale in January 2024.
– Via Popverse, comiXology’s head of the comiXology Originals program, Bryce Gold, announced in a tweet that he would be leaving the company after eight years. The news comes following some significant layoffs at the company, as well as the shuttering of the comiXology-operated Marvel Comics app. Gold later tweeted, “While I am sad to say goodbye to the amazing team of creators and my coworkers @comixology, I will not be saying goodbye to comics. Stay tuned for more news.”
– Via AIPT, Manta have launched their first action comic, “The Superheroes of Class F,” by Bbolong. The comic follows students at the Leaders Academy for the Superhumanly Gifted in South Korea, “where young heroes learn to hone and control their powers. But whether those being trained in Class F are superheroes or supervillains is yet to be discovered.” The prologue and first six episodes are available to read here.
– Via Animation Magazine, The Freak Brothers, based on Gilbert Shelton’s “The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers,” has been renewed for season two at Tubi, the streamer’s first renewal. The Freak Brothers stars Woody Harrelson, John Goodman, Pete Davidson, Tiffany Haddish, Adam Devine, Blake Anderson, Andrea Savage, La La Anthony, and ScHoolboy Q. The new season begins June 25, 2023.
– Finally, Variety reports that actor Ray Stevenson died suddenly on Sunday while in Italy. He was 58. Stevenson was born in Northern Ireland on May 25, 1964, and was best known for his role in HBO’s Rome, as well as for playing Frank Castle in Punisher: War Zone (a role he returned to for The Superhero Squad Show), Volstagg the Voluminous in the Thor movies, and Gar Saxon in Star Wars Rebels and The Clone Wars. Recently, Stevenson appeared in RRR, and will have a role in Disney+’s Ashoka series as the mysterious Jedi, Baylan Skoll. He is survived by his partner, their three sons, and his ex-wife.
