– The trailer for Batman and Harley Quinn was released, the latest direct-to-video DC animated film. Bruce Timm will once again be directing, and the movie sees a welcome return to the animation style of Batman: The Animated Series and Justice League. Kevin Conroy and Loren Lester will reprise their roles as Batman and Nightwing, along with DCAU newcomer Melissa Rauch (Big Bang Theory) voicing Harley Quinn. Batman and Harley Quinn will be released this summer.
– Sony is proceeding full steam ahead with their Spider-Man universe. The Silver Sable/Black Cat spin-off film now has a title, director, and release date. Silver and Black will be directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, and released in October of 2018. Prince-Bythewood previously directed The Secret Life of Bees, and the pilot for the upcoming Cloak & Dagger TV series.
– Before Scott Snyder and Jock return with the next arc of Wytches, they will be serializing what happened after the first volume in Image’s IMAGE+ magazine. The magazine is relaunching in August with an extended page count of 80, and will also feature an autobiographical comic strip from Ed Piskor titled, “Image of Youth.”
– The new Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! ride at Disney California Adventure Park may offer clues to future MCU appearances. The ride takes place in the Collector’s fortress, and has several familiar items from the films, like an Ultron drone and a Nova Corps uniform, but also features artifacts from Atlantis, and Beta Ray Bill’s hammer. The ride replaced the popular The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and is opening to the public tomorrow.
– Josh Boone has revealed how he’s going to approach New Mutants. “We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe,” said Boone. “There are no costumes. There are no supervillains. We’re trying to do something very, very different.” Only Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy have been cast so far, but Rosario Dawson is now reported to be in talks to join the film. No actual plot details have been revealed yet, and the movie is scheduled to go into production this July.
– Declan Shalvey is putting the pencil down to write a new original graphic novel from Image this September. “Savage Town” is a “gritty crime story with Irish charm,” according to Shalvey, who will be joined by Philip Barrett on art and Jordie Bellaire on colors.
