– Artist Frank Quitely (“All-Star Superman,” “Jupiter’s Legacy”) announced he’s creating an original character for an upcoming shared universe anthology. According to Bleeding Cool, Quitely’s character, Homemade Hitman, will feature in an eight-page story written and drawn by the artist. The anthology will likely release through Image Comics.
– The BBC revealed that a new “Rocky of the Rovers” comic will be published to celebrate the FIFA Women’s World Cup this summer. The comic, which is set in the “Roy of the Rovers” universe, will star his sister Rocky Race and her coach Ffion as they travel throughout France cheering on the England Lionesses. New chapters will release as the Lionesses progress through the tournament.
– DC Entertainment has hired on former comics journalist Albert Ching. Newsarama says that Ching will join DC as a copy editor in the company’s marketing department. In addition to writing for Newsarama, Comic Book Resources, and Comic Buyers Guide, Ching has written for The Atlantic, MSNBC, and Hi5 Agency.
– In Marvel TV news, Netflix announced that Jessica Jones season 3 will start June 14, while Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD shared a first look at two new characters played by Anthony Michael Hall and Sherri Saum (via TVLine).
– Hidden within a Variety article about animation at Cannes came word of a new Yakari movie, based on the comic series by Swiss writer/artist duo Job and Derib. Created in 1973, Yakari is a Sioux boy who can talk to animals. The CGI film screened at Cannes, along with a 12-minute “Making Of” promo that featured interviews with the creators.
– The Hollywood Reporter says that Aladdin actor Marwan Kenzari is joining on for Netflix’s The Old Guard, which is based on Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez’s Image Comics series of the same name. Kenzari will reportedly play Joe, an immortal Moor warrior turned modern-day mercenary.
– And finally, Newsarama reported that Liam Neeson is set to to join Kingsman: The Great Game, which is scheduled to hit theaters on February 14, 2020.
