-Manu Bennett, who returned as Deathstroke this season in Arrow after several years absence, is asking fans to petition for him to get his own television show. Deathstroke, now at least partially redeemed and less outright crazy in the eyes of his Arrow cast members after helping in their battle against Prometheus, is ripe for a story on his own. Marv Wolfman, who co-created Slade Wilson with George Perez, apparently agrees with the notion that Deathstroke should have his own series, at least via Twitter. Mr. Bennett listed Netflix among the companies he tweeted out to fans.
– While there is still no official release date, Punisher director Dearbhla Walsh mentioned an episode he worked on is expected before Christmas this year, which has fans speculating about a November release date. Netflix has released a number of their prior series in the fall, so that would fall in line with some of their past decisions.
–New Mutants director Josh Boone announced via Instagram an important casting choices today for the film: Sunspot will be played by Henry Zaga (13 Reasons), who joins the previously cast Anya Taylor Joy as Magik and Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane. The casting is notable because both Sunspot and Zaga are of Brazilian heritage.
-“Akira” creator Katsuhiro Otomo says he wants final approval of any live-action Akira production in the future. Rather then see a straight anime or manga to live action adaptation, he would prefer to see some new approach to his landmark work. In his interview with Forbes, mainly about the mechanical design work for Akira, he added that he has finished with anything he plans to do with the sport of Kaneda and Akira.
– DC Superhero Girls is the next comics property to receive a Lego film. Lego DC Superhero Girls: Brain Drain reunites the original voice actors and brings in new talent as they expand the cast for the film. Warner Brothers shared a trailer for the film today along with the cast list. The movie will be available July 26th for direct download and August 8th on DVD.
-DC’s double shipping titles have often had to swap artists and a couple of changes were announced today. Mikel Janin taking “Action Comics” #982 for Gary Frank and Patrick Zircher taking “Action Comic” #984, the new regular “Aquaman” artist Stjepan Sejic will be taking over “Suicide Squad”#20 for Eddie Barrows and Eber Ferreira.
-Marvel, not to be outshone, is swapping artists on several books too. “X-Men Blue” #10 will be drawn by Giovanni Valletta rather then Julian Lopez, Adam Gorham will replace Wilfredo Torres on “Black Panther” #15, and Georges Duarte is leaving with “Hulk” #9 with Julian Lopez replacing him.
