– DC is expanding the titles involved in their crossover event ‘Dark Crisis.’ Via CBR, two new one-shots will release this coming year, with “Dark Crisis: Deadly Green” coming in October, and “Dark Crisis: The Dark Army” in November. The former features a team-up between Jon Kent and Swamp Thing, while the latter features John Constantine investigating the Great Darkness. DC announced both books without creative teams attached. DC also announced that the tie-in issues of “The Flash” #783-785 would be expanded into September’s #786, with writer Jeremy Adams and artist Amancay Nahuelpan telling the story of Wally West attempting to free Barry. November’s “I Am Batman” #15, from writer John Ridley and an unannounced artist, will be a part of the event as well. “Dark Crisis” #1 kicks off the event next week on June 7.

– DC also announced two new middle-grade graphic novels for Spring 2023: “Bruce Wayne: Not Super,” and “Fann Club: The Batman Squad.” “Bruce Wayne: Not Super,” by author Stuart Gibbs (Spy School) and artist Berat Peckmezci (“The Flash”) reimagines Bruce as a non-superpowered student at a school for the gifted. As well as his future allies and foes, the school is attended by the future Justice League. It will be released on February 7. “Fann Club: The Batman Squad,” by cartoonist Jim Benton (Dear Dumb Diary) will follow the misadventures of the young boy Ernest Fann, who idolizes Batman, and starts his own superhero team with his friends and pet dog. It will follow “Not Super” on June 6.

– The ‘Marvel’s Voices’ anthology series has made its way to Marvel Unlimited’s Infinity Comics format. The new digital series will kick off with “Marvel’s Voices: Iceman” from writer and artist Luciano Vecchio, telling “an Iceman tale that’ll melt even the coldest of hearts.” The series finds Bobby Drake setting out to find out the limits of his potential as a powerful Omega mutant. “As a queer creator, getting the chance to work as writer/artist on one of my favorite characters, and be part of the cultural conversation about queer rep in mainstream media with my own work, feels necessary and vital for me,” Vecchio told Out Magazine. “Marvel’s Voices: Iceman” #1 is available now on Marvel Unlimited.

– Director James Gunn has officially brought over one of his The Suicide Squad standouts from the DCEU to the MCU. Via Deadline, Daniela Melchior, who popped in The Suicide Squad as Ratcatcher 2, will have a small role in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Although neither Gunn nor Marvel have confirmed who Melchior is playing, he confirmed last year that she would not be appearing as Moondragon. Melchior joins returning cast members Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Sylvester Stallone, Karen Gillan, and Elizabeth Debicki, with MCU newcomer Will Poulter joining them as Adam Warlock. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is scheduled to launch May 5, 2023.

– The prequel film Fruits Basket -prelude- will receive a limited release in theaters in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Via Popverse, the film is a standalone story that concerns “the turbulent beginning of Tohru’s mom’s dark past,” depicting the events that lead to the birth of Tohru’s family prior to the events of “Fruits Basket.” The new film is directed by Yoshihide Ibata and written by Taku Kishimoto, both of whom worked on the most recent Fruits Basket anime. Based on the original manga by Natsuki Takaya, Fruits Basket -prelude- will screen in select theaters on June 25, 28 and 29 in the US and Canada, and on July 20 in the UK. You can check out the recently released trailer for the film ahead of its limited premiere.

– Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off film Madame Web continues to pick up speed with more casting announcements. Deadline reports that Isabela Merced (Sweet Girl) has joined the cast that also features Sydney Sweeney and Celeste O’Connor, as well as Dakota Johnson in the lead role. Little has been announced about the direction of the film, which is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, who has precognitive and telepathic abilities; although traditionally Madame Web was an elderly woman named Cassandra Webb, her role and powers were later inherited by former Spider-Woman Julia Carpenter. Directed by S.J. Clarkson, Madame Web is currently scheduled for release July 7, 2023.

– Warner Bros. Themed Entertainment and TCG Entertainment are partnering for a global touring film concert series called DC in Concert. Via CBR, the series will feature a symphony orchestra performing the scores of some of DC’s films live as the films are projected behind them. “The films in this series are some of the most recognizable from the DC Universe and we’re looking forward to taking the cinematic experience to the next level, giving fans a whole new way to experience the scope of their favorite DC movies with the iconic scores being performed live,” said Peter van Roden, senior vice president of Warner Bros. Themed Entertainment. The series is currently announced to include the 1989 Batman, Justice League, and this year’s The Batman, with upcoming films The Flash, Black Adam, Shazam!: Fury of the Gods, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom joining in the future. The release schedule will be announced later this year.

– A pair of murals commissioned from comics artist MariNaomi in Los Angeles County have been vandalized. CBS News reported on the vandalization of the murals in Alhambra and Cerritos, which featured Asian American icons Grace Lee Boggs, George Takei, and Margaret Cho among others and were commissioned last year in response to a spate of anti-Asian hatred and violence as part of the LA vs. Hate campaign. The mural in Cerritos was vandalized with a “hateful slur,” which officials say was quickly removed. Adding further frustration to the story, CBS News’s initial reporting misidentified both MariNaomi and the nature of her murals. The artist noted that both details were apparently correct in the initial statement from LA County officials, and that the errors were introduced somewhere in the editing process.
