– In addition to including The Punisher in his “The Defenders” series beginning with issue #3, Brian Michael Bendis revealed he’s been given the go ahead on a companion piece to his 2012 book “Daredevil: End of Days” called “Punisher: End of Days”. Bendis says it’s more of a side story then a sequel, taking a deeper look at the part Frank Castle played in the story of Matt Murdock’s death and the aftermath. No artist or release date has been announced yet.
– Marvel Comics announced that Nick Spencer and Leinel Francis Yu’s “Secret Empire” #6 will be delayed from the 12th to the 19th of July. Though late, the issue is keeping the same creative team and will be getting 8 additional pages and a dollar bump in price to $4.99.
– Glenne Headley who played Tess Trueheart opposite Warren Beatty in the 1990 film Dick Tracy, died this week at the age of 63. A recognized leading lady from Broadway, TV, and film, she played strong, challenging women across many genres and media. She was nominated for an Emmy for her roles in the TV mini-series Lonesome Dove and for the 1996 Showtime production of Bastard Out of Carolina. Her upcoming role in the Hulu show Future Man, a time travel comedy series, will be recast, but her initial appearances in the show will air.
– Jessica Jones cast member Wil Traval, who played Nuke in the Netflix series, has been cast in a yet to be revealed role for the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix from Fox. Much is still up in the air for the film, but Sophie Turner will reprise her role as Jean Grey from X-Men: Apocalypse, and shooting is expected to being this June in Montreal.
– Fox TV has begun showing promotional adds for the new season of Lucifer. The network is moving it to the 8pm time slot, to be followed by the new X-Men related series, The Gifted. Fox seems to believe that the fallen angel police procedural is a better lead in the then Gotham which they are moving to Thursdays. Lucifer had played with themes and situations that are pretty racy for the more family friendly time of 8pm, so there are suspicions the new season might be toning down some of the obvious and blatant innuendo.
– Stargate Universe fans will finally get a resolution to the cliffhanger that ended season two. Comics company American Mythology plans to continue the story with their take on what would be ‘season three’ written by Mark L. Haynes and J.C. Vaughn and illustrated by Giancarlo Caracuzzo. The original series’ writers and creators are not involved.
– As the final order cutoff date for “Secret Empire” #10 closes in, Marvel has revealed that there will be an Alex Ross “Generations” variant cover. It looks to be a portion of the letterbox style poster featuring the Spider-Men in the center, and will be printed under the “Secret Empire” banner with something covered by the word ‘classified’.
– Marvel’s cancellation of “Black Panther and The Crew” by Ta-Nehisi Coates, Yona Harvey and Jackson Guice is one in a growing list of quickly terminated titles due to low sales that includes “World of Wakanda,” “Gamora,” “Mosiac,” “Star-Lord,” “Rocket Raccoon,” and “Mockingbird.” Chris Neill of Comic Book Resources takes a shot at finding meaning in this reality given the direct market, sales expectations, bursting shelves and a limited fan budget.
