– Writer Marguerite Bennett revealed details about the relaunch of “DC Comics: Bombshells.” Now titled “Bombshells United,” the series introduces new versions of Cassie Sandsmark and Donna Troy, focusing on them living in Japanese internment camps. Bennett also promises Black Canary, Katana, and Bumblebee will be introduced in this iteration of the series.
– Marvel is going crazy with the cancellations. First off, “Kingpin” ends after issue #5. Matthew Rosenberg broke the news on Twitter with no further explanation for the cancellation. Secondly, the other “Black Panther” spinoff, “Black Panther: World of Wakanda” has also been canceled after six issues. Roxanne Gray, who scripted the series, broke the news on Twitter. “Black Panther: World of Wakanda” garnered much praise when it debuted for being the first Marvel comic book helmed by black women.
– Writer Sebastian Girner, comic/storyboard artist Galaad, and letterer/designer Jeff Powell are teaming up to create “Scales & Scoundrels” for Image Comics. Girner describes the story as “a fantasy adventure comic for readers of all ages to escape into, and bring a piece of magic back with them into their lives.” The story follows Luvander, a penniless adventurer in search of gold and glory, and her travels through fabled dungeons and ancient labyrinths.
-Shioli Kutsana has been cast in an unspecified “key role” in David Leitch’s Deadpool 2. There is some speculation that she will take on the role of Armor or Surge but, again, nothing has been confirmed.
– TBS will broadcast the first ever world championship of ELeague Injustice 2. The games will begin airing October 21 with open qualifying rounds and players competing for $250,000 in prize money.
-Actor Wil Traval will not be included in X-Men: Dark Phoenix as previously reported. Traval cleared up the confusion by explaining he’s merely looking forward to the movie as a fan as opposed to acting in the film.
-At this weekend’s Brighton International Comic Expo, Jim Stewart debuted his latest cannabis-themed anthology comic magazine, “Ganjaman Presents.” The first issue was published in 2008. The newly launched issue contains a cover strip written by John Wagner titled ‘Judge Dreadz,’ which will be drawn by Jim Stewart himself. Also contained in the anthology is an episode of the ‘Astounding Ganjaman’ written by Alan Grant and also drawn by Stewart.
