– BOOM! Studios have announced its first ever “Firefly” comic book event, kicking off with “Firefly: Blue Sun Rising” #0, and unfolding in issues #21-24 of the main series before concluding in “Firefly: Blue Sun Rising” #1. Written by Greg Pak, illustrated by Dan McDaid, and overseen by Joss Whedon, “Firefly: Blue Sun Rising” #0 follows Mal Reynolds and his Serenity crew as they clash with Blue Sun Corporation, the organization that has been continuously haunting them. Mal is seen teaming up with a law-enforcing robot from the Blue Sun Corporation as the organization seeks to take over the ‘Verse. A special story arc prelude can be found in “Firefly” #20, which sets up the events in “Firefly: Blue Sun Rising” #0, which both hit comic stores in September.

– New Brunswick sociologist Erin Steuter has teamed up with illustrator Alan Spinney to create a new graphic novel that helps fight fake news. “Won’t Get Fooled Again” tells the stories of multiple people being tricked into believing fake news, and how their friends help them become more aware. The graphic novel approach, rather than a non-fiction one, is an attempt to make the lessons of the book more bite-sized for the readers. “Won’t Get Fooled Again” is available in bookstores now.

– As popular manga series “The Promised Neverland” comes to an end with its 20th and final volume shipping in October, Weekly Shonen Jump have revealed that the manga will also be getting an artbook, fanbook, and an exhibition in Tokyo starting December 11. A live-action film adaptation will also be opening on December 18.

– It has been announced that Star Wars Celebration 2020 has been canceled due to the impact of the ongoing pandemic. Star Wars Celebration will return to the Anaheim Convention Center on August 18-21, 2022. A full statement and information on refunds or transferring tickets can be found here.

– Vault Comics have announced a partnership with Heavy Metal Entertainment, which commences with the release of a selection of Vault’s greatest hits to date, which feature exclusive new cover designs. The first wave under the new partnership will include “Heathen,” “Money Shot,” “The Plot,” “These Savage Shores,” and “Wasted Space.” The partnership will expand in the coming months and include exclusive packaging of new #1 Vault titles with unique cover art, a new format that features a line of select titles in a compendium-style book, and an assortment of merchandise.

– DC Comics and HBO Max have announced a new free digital comic series, titled “To the Max.” It includes three 8-page chapters following Hector, Brian, and Olivia (HBO), who meet Max the dog and gain access to different superpowers. The series celebrates the launch of HBO Max and include easter eggs and nods to much of the premium content available on the streaming platform.

– DC Universe will be hosting live Q&As throughout June with Doom Patrol‘s April Bowlby (Elasti-Woman) and Stargirl‘s Neil Jackson (Icicle) and Anjelika Washington (Doctor Mid-Nite), among others. The Q&As are open to all fans, not just subscribers, and will take place on the DC Universe Community section. Along with Q&As, there will also be trivia challenges, book clubs, and more which can all be found on the DC Universe community calendar.

– Finally, Netflix has dropped a trailer for animated feature film Animal Crackers, which will start streaming July 24. Animal Crackers premiered at the Annecy French Animation Festival in 2017, before finally being acquired by Netflix. The film is directed by Tony Bancroft (Mulan) and Scott Christian Sava, and revolves around a magical box of cookies used to rescue a rundown circus. The film stars John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, Danny DeVito, and Ian McKellen, and is based on a graphic novel by Sava and Alison Acton. Watch the trailer here.
