– As part of Skybound’s newly revealed partnership with Hasbro, the Image imprint will resurrect the classic “G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero” series, starting on November 14. Iconic “Joe” writer Larry Hama will return with the title’s 301st issue, which will feature art by Chris Mooneyham and colorist Francesco Segala, as well as a cover from Andy Kubert. November will also see the release of “G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #1 Larry Hama Cut,” a re-release of the classic first issue, featuring Hama’s original scripting that was altered before its final printing.
– DC unveiled the long-teased “Green Lantern: War Journal,” by writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson and artist Montos. The book will see the Green Lantern John Stewart get pulled out of retirement to battle a contagious force with mysterious ties to Oa. Johnson promises to give readers “the most epic ’80s sci-fi action movie you haven’t seen.” The first issue is due out September 19.
– Image has announced a new series described as Narnia meets Hereditary. “Kill Your Darlings,” from debuting writers (and KLC Press’s) Ethan S. Parker and Griffin Sheridan, accompanied by the art team of Bob Quinn and John J. Hill, following an eight-year old girl stalked by the ancient evil that lurks in her imaginary fantasy land. It will be on sale starting September 6.
– Image has also announced that debuting creator and 2019 Creators for Creators Grant finalist Richard Blake’s “Hexagon Bridge” will begin on September 13. The five-issue miniseries will find a family of explorers (and their robot sidekick) become “trapped in a strange parallel dimension of elusive landscapes, and shifting architecture inhabited by mischievous entities.”
– The latest installment of Marvel’s “Black, White & Blood” series will take us back to the world of Marvel Zombies. “Marvel Zombies: Black, White & Blood” #1 (of 4) will hit shelves on October 25, and see Peter Parker confronting the living dead remains of his friends (in a story from writer Alex Segura and artist Javi Fernández), as well as Khonshu intervening on behalf of Moon Knight (written by Milestone Initiative participant Ashley Allen in her Marvel debut, with art from Justin Mason). Garth Ennis will return to Marvel for this anthology as well, contributing a zombie Daredevil story with artist Rachael Stott.
– Archie revealed two new nemeses for Sabrina Spellman. This September’s “Sabrina The Teenage Witch Annual Spectacular” #1 will see the debut of Jade Kazane and Sapphire Gill, the other members of Amber Nightstone’s Wicked Three. Amber Nightstone is herself a newly introduced villain. The duo were created by Archie Comics’ senior director of editorial Jamie L. Rotante and artist Holly G!. “Sabrina The Teenage Witch Annual Spectacular” will be available on September 6.
– DC Studios’ James Gunn and Peter Safran officially confirmed The Flash director Andy Muschietti will helm The Brave and the Bold. The revamped DCU film, which will star a new actor as Batman and Damian Wayne as Robin, does not have a screenwriter or release date attached yet. The Flash, which has received mixed reviews, opens in theaters today.
– Babylon 5: The Road Home, the animated adaptation of the ’90s sci-fi series, will be available on streaming services starting August 15. Most of the surviving cast returns for the animated feature, which sees Bruce Boxleitner’s John Sheridan get “whipsawed through multiple timelines and alternate realities.” It will be available on Amazon, Apple TV, Vudu, and YouTube, in addition to a Blu-ray release. Many of these services are offering preorders for $20. Series creator J. Michael Straczynski has teased a Comic-Con premiere this July. You can watch the trailer here.
– The Incredible Hulk, starring Edward Norton, is available on Disney+ as of today. Originally distributed by Universal Pictures in 2008, the film finally joined the other Phase One MCU films on the streamer as the distribution rights reverted to Marvel after 15 years. Coincidentally, Norton’s co-stars Liv Tyler and Tim Blake Nelson are set to reprise their roles as Betty Ross and Samuel Sterns in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World.
– Finally, the Cartoon Museum and SelfMadeHero will present the First Graphic Novel Award for creators in the UK. Creators or creative teams can submit a 15-30 page extract from their debut graphic novel for consideration, with the winning entry receiving support to complete the work for publication by SelfMadeHero, and £500. The application period will be open until the end of September.
