In case you missed it, Alyssa Wong and Jan Bazaldua are relaunching “Captain Marvel” this October, complete with a new costume courtesy of Jen Bartel.

– BOOM! Studios stated “Hunt for the Skinwalker” #1 will be released on September 6. The series, an adaptation of Dr. Colm A. Kelleher and George Knapp’s non-fiction book by writer Zac Thompson and artist Valeria Burzo, is inspired by the investigation of the supposed paranormal going ons at Gorman Ranch (now Skinwalker Ranch) in Ballard, Utah, during the 1990s. It was previously announced last month as part of a Kickstarter campaign for an expanded edition of the original book.
– Dark Horse announced three comiXology series coming to print in 2024. They are surreal horror series “Retroverse,” by writer Cullen Bunn and artist John Bivens, releasing February 7; Prohibition vampire tale “Blood Oath,” by Rob Hart, Alex Segura, and Joe Eisma, out February 21; and Curt Pires and Luca Casalanguida’s secessionism story “New America,” dropping March 6. – Archie revealed “Chilling Adventures Presents: Madam Satan: Hell on Earth,” a new one-shot starring the “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” villain. Written by Eliot Rahal with art by Vincenzo Federici, coloring by Ellie Wright, and lettering by Jack Morelli, the comic picks up with Madam Stan hiding from the forces of Lucifer on Earth “in a random suburban home… and who she meets there is surprising. But is this powerful person a friend or foe? And can the two of them work together to summon Eldritch Terrors and stop Satan’s rampage?” It will be released on September 20.
– Mad Cave will publish “Tales from the Cave,” a one-shot featuring stories from the company’s 2022 talent search. Written by David Hazan, Keith Frady, and Rachel Pinnelas, with art by Shane Connery Volk, Luca Romano, Riccardo Cecchi, Marco Pelandra, Marco Tortella, and Marcello Iozzoli, the book will feature three spooky stories from the worlds of “Nottingham,” “Battlecats,” and “Hunt. Kill. Repeat.” It will be released shortly before Halloween on September 27.
– Via ICv2, Viz Media are raising prices on new manga volumes beginning in January 2024. Per various booksellers’ sites, next year’s new releases, such as March’s “My Hero Academia” Vol. 37, will cost $11.99. Viz Media currently sells new manga for $9.99, and has done so since they last raised prices in 2009. However, their MSRP for standard releases is still lower than other manga publishers, such as Kodansha ($12.99), Yen Press ($13.00), and Seven Seas Entertainment ($12.99 to $14.99.)
– Warner Bros. made several announcements at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, including the reveal of Beast Boy: Lone Wolf, a solo series for the Teen Titan consisting of 10 action-centric shorts. It will mark the first DC series from the London-based Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe. It was also announced the Harley Quinn spin-off Noonan’s has been retitled Kite Man: Hell Yeah!, while it was confirmed Amazon’s Batman: Caped Crusader will skew older than The Animated Series. (“It’s everything that Bruce Timm wanted to do in the original series but [couldn’t] because it ran on a kid’s channel,” executive Peter Girardi said.)
Furthermore, Robot Dreams was awarded the festival’s Contrechamp Grand Prix. Based on the 2007 graphic novel by Sara Varon, the near-silent 2D film follows the friendship between a dog and a robot in 1980s New York. The movie, directed by Spanish filmmaker Pablo Berger, will be released by Neon in the States sometime later this year; distribution rights have also been acquired by Curzon for the UK and Ireland, and Madman Entertainment for Australia.
Now for the news from Netflix’s Tudum event on Saturday:
– The first trailer for the live-action One Piece series was released, revealing the show will premiere August 31. Based on Eiichiro Oda’s long-running pirate manga, the comedy adventure stars Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji.
Continued below– A first look at the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series was shown, revealing Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley and Dallas Liu respectively in character as Aang, Katara, Sokka and Zuko. A one-minute logo reveal, confirming a 2024 release, also dropped.
– A teaser trailer for The Archies, the Hindi-language musical reimagining the Riverdale gang in 1960s India, was released. A release date was not disclosed, although the film is expected to arrive later this year.
– Linda Hamilton revealed she is joining the cast of Stranger Things 5 in an unnamed role. Stranger Things 5, which will be the final season of the show, will begin filming after the WGA strike is resolved.
– Chris Hemsworth confirmed development has begun on Extraction 3, continuing the adventures of his character Tyler Rake, who first appeared in Ande Parks, Joe & Anthony Russo, and Fernando León González’s graphic novel “Ciudad.”
– Finally, clips from The Witcher season three (starting June 29) and Heartstopper season two (August 3), along with the latter’s episode titles, were shown, as was a video with the cast of Wednesday discussing fan theories. A 30-second commercial for The Chosen One (August 16) also premiered at the event, although it was not posted separately online.
