It was an eventful day for comic news yesterday. So in case you missed it, we had full coverage of the “Mockingbird” team reuniting for a new Image series, the reveal of what “X Classified” is, a “Star Trek vs. Transformers” series, Sam Kieth returning for “Batman/The Maxx: Arkham Dreams,” and several other stories. Let’s get to the rest…

– Amazon Studios is green-lighting an animated adaption of Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley’s “Invincible.” The initial order is for eight hour-long episodes. Simon Racioppa (Teen Titans) will serve as showrunner. This is the first product of the overall deal that was signed last year between Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment and Amazon Studios. Kirkman is extremely enthusiastic about the project, saying, “What Amazon is allowing us to do in animated form is nothing short of ground-breaking, and I can’t wait for our rabid fan base to experience it!” This project is completely separate from the Universal film adaptation of the series by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, which is still happening according to The Hollywood Reporter‘s sources.

– A group of children’s literature authors have started a campaign called “Kid Lit Says No Kids in Cages,” to raise money for organizations helping those affected by the White House administration’s policy of separating immigrant children from their parents at the border. The statement for the campaign condemns the US government’s actions, calling the policy inhumane, cruel, immoral, and outrageous. It’s signed by 20 children’s authors, including Melissa de la Cruz, Margaret Stohl, and Rainbow Rowell. Funds from the campaign will go to The Florence Project, ACLU, RAICES, Womens Refugee Commission, Kids In Need of Defense (KIND), and Al Otro Lado. The initial goal was to raise $42,000 in 24 hours, but they received over $100,000 in the first day and the campaign was still open at the time of writing.

– Marvel has announced “Secret Agent Deadpool,” their latest ComiXology Originals digital series. The 6-issue bi-weekly series will be written by Chris Hastings, drawn by Salva Espin, colored by Matt Yackey, and have covers done by David Nakayama. The story follows Wade after he accidentally kills an American spy, and then has to finish his victim’s mission. The series starts on September 6, and will be free for comiXology Unlimited subscribers, or $2.99 for everyone else.

– Image Comics has finally gotten around to officially announcing “My Heroes Have Always Been Junkies,” the first OGN from Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, which was posted to Amazon early last month. There aren’t any additional details, other than it will be available in comic shops on October 10. Sean Phillips revealed on Twitter that he would be coloring the book along with his son Jacob Phillips, as opposed to the solicited Elizabeth Breitweiser. The younger Phillips has also been providing illustrations in the backmatter of “Kill or Be Killed.”

– Marvel is reviving the “Journey Into Mystery” title for a special one-shot from Dennis Hopeless and Djibril Morissette-Phan called, “Journey Into Mystery: The Birth of Krakoa.” The Word War II-era story will follow Nick Fury and the Howling Commandos as they discover the origins of the classic X-Men fixture.

– Titan will release the third volume in Michael Moorcock’s Elric series, “Elric: The White Wolf,” starting in September. The new volume includes much of the creative team from the previous volumes: writers Julien Blondel, Jean-Luc Cano, and Jean Bastide, and artists Robin Recht and Julien Telo. The Elric series is part of Titan’s European graphic novel line.

Newly appointed Star Trek: Discovery showrunner Alex Kurtzman has just signed a new five-year deal with CBS to oversee the expansion of their Star Trek universe. The expansion is said to include new series, mini-series, animation, and “other content.” The first project will be an eight-episode limited series spinoff.

– Skip ahead if you don’t want SPOILERS for Monday’s Supergirl season finale. Chris Wood will not be returning for Season 4, after his character Mon-El was sent back to the future in the Season 3 finale. He may return at some point, “if the story takes us there and if Chris is available,” said executive produce Robert Rovner.

– The co-showrunners of “Lucifer” have clarified some of the lingering questions after the announcement that Netflix had picked up the show, following the cancellation on Fox. Netflix has ordered 10 new episodes for their Season 4, meaning the two already-aired “bonus episodes” originally intended for Fox’s Season 4 will not be worked in. The 10 episodes will comprise the first half of what they had previously planned to do at Fox.

– Brian Michael Bendis revealed that Superman IV: The Quest for Peace villain Nuclear Man will be making an appearance in “Superman” #2, after a sketch of him by Nick Derington (which was featured in our Art of the Week column) prompted fans to ask for the character to be included in Bendis’s run. The reveal came as part of Bendis’s takeover of DC Comics’ Instagram account yesterday.

– Image’s “Dark Fang” has been abruptly canceled, with May’s #5 now the series’ end. Issues 6-8 had previously been solicited for July through September. No other details are known, and no comments have been released by creators Miles Gunter and Kelsey Shannon at the time of writing.
