– Dark Horse and Flux House have announced a new series from “Bang!” writer Matt Kindt and artist Wilfredo Torres, with a narrative that spans across much of Kindt’s previous work. “Subgenre” follows a private eye attempting to solve a triple murder in a cyberpunk dystopia, who becomes a fantasy adventurer in a magical land when he falls asleep; he may be two people, or one man suffering from a psychotic split. Bill Crabtree provides colors, while Brian Hurtt supplies variant covers for each issue. “Subgenre” #1 (of 4) will be available in stores on September 27.
– Titan Comics has announced “Bloodborne: The Bleak Dominion,” a four-part miniseries based on the FromSoftware game of the same name. The book follows hunters Gretchen and Abraham, as they search the plagued city of Yharnam for Lucien, their missing protégé. Cullen Bunn writes with art from Piotr Kowalski. The book will feature variant covers from Werther Dell’Edera, Alan Quah, Abigail Harding, Yoshioka, and The Knott. Issue #1 (of 4) will be in stores on September 13, 2023, and it available for preorder at local shops and Forbidden Planet in the UK.
– Ringo Award-winning writer David Pepose is making his Mad Cave Comics debut with Bram Stoker Award-nominated artist Alex Cormack on a horror series that’s ”equal parts Face/Off and The Exorcist.” “The Devil That Wears My Face” follows Father Franco Vieri, who, after an exorcism gone wrong, finds himself trapped in the body of a stranger, as the demon he sought to banish possesses his. Justin Birch will letter the series, due out this October.
– Iconic horror author R.L. Stine is joining forces with artist Adam Gorham for “Stuff of Nightmares: Red Murders.” The book, the second of Stine’s “Stuff of Nightmares” series at BOOM! Studios, follows comic creator Alex Oxaca after a series of axe murders by someone cosplaying a killer he created ensues. Issue #1 will be available in shops September 27, 2023.
– BOOM! also announced a six-part “Firefly” series, “Firefly: The Fall Guys,” written by Sam Humphries (“Green Lanterns”) with art by Jordi Pérez (“All-New Firefly”) and colorist Francesco Segala (“Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers”). The book sees the Serenity crew “deal with some of their shadier associates,” leading to “what seems like an easy job in town for half the crew quickly [turn] sideways when feds, untrusting locals, and a high-profile politician get thrown into the mix.” Issue #1 will be released on September 6.
– “Spine-Tingling Spider-Man” will be available in print for the first time September 13. “Spine-Tingling Spider-Man” #0 collects writer Saladin Ahmed and artist Juan Ferreyra’s Spider-Man horror series, which originally premiered on the Marvel Unlimited app in 2021. It follows Spider-Man as he battles the nightmare manipulating villain the Sleep-Stealer. You can check out Marvel’s full solicits for September here.
– Penguin Random House imprint Random House Worlds announced a new series of adult novels inspired by Marvel’s “What If…?” series. The collaboration with Marvel kicks off with What If… Loki Was Worthy? A Loki and Valkyrie Story, by New York Times and USA Today-best selling author Madeleine Roux, on March 12, 2024. The book sees the title Asgardian get banished to Earth after killing his brother Thor, only to be tasked with finding the new heir to Mjolnir. Later installments in the series will include What If… Wanda Maximoff and Peter Parker Were Siblings? A Scarlet Witch and Spider-Man Story by Seanan McGuire in July 2024, and What If Marc Spector Was a Host to Venom? A Moon Knight and Venom Story the following October.
– Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on August 1, with a digital release a month earlier on July 7. The release will feature eight deleted scenes, and two featurettes detailing the effects behind series mainstay Rocket and the cast itself. There will also be a gag reel and commentary from director James Gunn.
– Finally, Nate Piekos released the first episode of his Lettering Live series on Blambot’s YouTube channel. The episode sees him work on page three of Skottie Young and Brett Bean’s “I Hate Fairy Land” #6. Piekos uses Adobe Illustrator in the video, as well as Blambot’s Imaginary Friend BB font.
