In case you missed it, playwright and cartoonist William F. Brown passed away at the age of 91. We also have an preview of “Teenage Wasteland” #3, due out today from comiXology, and the entire first issue of Vault’s “Wasted Space,” ahead of the second trade paperback’s release this week.

The Daily Beast published an exposé on the working environment inside Oni Press, in the wake of the publisher’s recent merger with Lion Forge and contentious series of layoffs. According to the Beast and the former Oni Press employees they interviewed, the publisher featured “a startlingly unprofessional office environment, with an editorial arm that seemed reluctant to support its marginalized employees.”

– Dark Horse is re-releasing Makoto Kobayahi’s “What’s Michael?” in English, according to CrunchyRoll. The 520-page oversized collection will collect the first six volumes of the Japanese cat manga, and will release in January 2020.

– BOOM! Studios is partnering with comics app and software provider ComicHub to promote the upcoming Kieron Gillen and Dan Mora series “Once & Future.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, retailers who are using BOOM!’s “BOOM! Guarantee” program will be offered a $100 discount to sign up for ComicHub, and “Once & Future” will be promoted directly through the ComicHub platform.

The Beat is getting a redesign just in time for their 15th anniversary – and taking a well-deserved break while the site switches servers. They’ll resume their regular posting schedule on Monday.

– BookRiot revealed the cover for “Lumberjanes” co-writer Kat Leyh’s “Snapdragon,” an all-ages graphic novel that First Second will drop in February 2020. You can check out the cover and a book synopsis by clicking over to BookRiot.

– The 2019 Jonathan Cape/Observer/Comica Graphic competition is now accepting entries, according to The Guardian. The competition awards £1,000, as well as print and online publication in the Observer New Review, to its winner. The deadline for entry is Oct. 11; you can read a bit about 2018’s winner, “An Artistic Odyssey,” here.

Vulture chronicled cartoonist KC Green’s six-year struggle to retain ownership and receive credit for the This Is Fine Dog, despite other parties’ attempts to co-opt the cartoon for various uses.

– The Publishers Weekly Rights Report said that Michael Regina’s “Sleepover,” a middle-grade graphic novel about a group of kids who try to cheer up their friend “with a night of sugary snacks and scary movies,” has been picked up by publisher Razorbill for a Fall 2021 release. – The translator behind Netflix’s most-recent Neon Genesis Evangelion dub spoke about the changes he made to a key scene that appears late in the story, which previously implied that two male characters were in love with each other. CBR compiled the tweets and the context behind them.

– And finally, Stan Lee’s posthumous project, A Trick of Light, is now set to publish as an adult reader novel this fall, rather than an Audible series. Entertainment Weekly has more details.
