– The pending Green Lantern Corps film may have found its director. It is being reported that Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) is attached to direct the DC feature film, which is being written by David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight Trilogy) and relative newcomer Justin Rhodes (Grassroots). Character descriptions for the film have also surfaced and describe “older Hal Jordon serving as a mentor to John Stewart.” Green Lantern Corps is targeted for release in 2020.
– A new mature readers superhero imprint is on its way from DC Comics. The still unnamed entity is being described as “a mature readers line telling complex stories featuring DC Comics superhero characters both in and out of DC Universe continuity.” The new imprint will be headed by Executive Editor Mark Doyle. Doyle, recently moved from overseeing the Bat-books to serve as Executive Editor on the Vertigo and Young Animal titles as well as what was then described as “select new projects.” It is being speculated that this new imprint will attempt recapture the less continuity constrained and progressive storytelling that brought fans such stories as “Dark Knight Returns” and the “The Killing Joke.”
– Stan Sakai spoke to CBR about a myriad of topics involving Usagi Yojimbo and, specifically, the history between Usagi and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The interview also features Sakai talking about his favorite current comics, his connection to his hardcore online fans, lettering “Groo,” and more.
– Wizard World has cancled two upcoming conventions in Albuquerque, New Mexico (July 14 – 16) and Orlando, Florida (August 11-13). Fans who purchased advance tickets or photo ops for these two events will receive automatic refunds. No reason for the cancellation has been specified by the organizer, however they have stated that they “will almost double” the number of conventions they will hold in 2018. A full schedule of events is slated to announced sometime this month.
– Film School Rejects published a visual compilation from editor Alejandro Brun which depicts panels from graphic novels alongside frames and scenes that reflected them in recently adapted films. Some of the notable features include “Ghost World,” “Sin City,” “Hellboy,” and many more.
– The first installment of Disney’s animated Star Wars short series Star Wars: Forces of Destiny has been released. Star Wars: Forces of Destiny is considered to be an in cannon story featuring previous Star Wars film and television actors Daisy Ridley as Rey, Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, Tiya Sircar as Sabine Wren, Ashley Eckstein as Ahsoka Tano, John Boyega as Finn and Lupita Nyong’o as Maz. The story will take place across all eras of the Star Wars universe. The series consists of sixteen episodes and will air online and on The Disney Channel, and is slated to have a tie in line of toys and books coming later this year.
