In case you missed it, CBR is reporting that BOOM! Studios have announced “Sparrowhawk,” a new five-issue fantasy series from author Delilah S. Dawson (Blud) and artist Matias Basla (“The Claw and Fang”). And we posted an interview with Christopher Golden and Peter Bergting in regards to their new miniseries “Joe Golem: Occult Detective — The Drowning City.”

– ComicBook.com is reporting that Dark Horse will be added yet another horror themed title to its lineup with October’s “The Whispering Dark.” Written by Christofer Emgard (“Mirror’s Edge: Exordium”) and illustrated by Tomas Aira (“Night of the Living Dead: Aftermath”), the book follows a female soldier whose helicopter is shot down behind enemy lines, and is described as a mix between Apocalypse Now and H.P. Lovecraft. The first issue in the four-part series is out October 24.

– Last night saw the release of “Batman” #50 (the wedding issue). And DC Comics, through its official Spotify page, is now offering fans a selection of wedding music to accompany the special oversized issue. The songs were handpicked by current Batman writer Tom King along with Bat-artists Joëlle Jones, Mikel Janín, Mitch Gerads and Tony Daniel. The playlist offers a diverse array of musical styles including tracks by Taylor Swift, Bobby Womack, Prince and U2.

– In the DC Comics Universe, Metropolis is a sprawling Metropolis closely resembling New York City, but in the real world Metropolis, Illinois, is a tiny town with a population of 6,500 (more closely resembling Superman’s birth town of Smallville). But despite this discrepancy, DC Comics officially declared Metropolis the “Home of Superman” way back in 1972 and even announced a plan to build an elaborate $50 million dollar theme park entitled “Amazing World of Superman.” Although this plan was eventually axed, Metropolis continues to celebrate the Man of Steel with an annual Superman Celebration festival- complete with film screenings, cosplay and even wrestling contests. Earlier this month, Metropolis held a special events in honor of the Superman Celebration’s 40th anniversary (which also happens to coincide with Superman’s 80th anniversary), which you can read about at Wired.

– According to Newsarama, the 2018 Kids’ Comics Awards were announced on June 17th at the Ann Arbor District Library. Among the winners were “Brobots and the Mecha Melarky! Volume Two” by J. Torres and Sean Dove. “SpongeBob Comics: Silly Sea Stories” by Stephen Hillenburg, “Pix: Too Super for School” by Gregg Schigiel, “HiLo: The Great Big Boom” by Judd Winick, and “Phoebe and Her Unicorn in the Magic Storm” by Dana Simpson.

– And in other news that may appeal to the younger set, Benjamin Renner and Patrick Imbert’s adaptation of The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales will finally see a North America release this fall. The animated family film (which is based on an original comic by Renner) features the voice talents of several well known British actors including Matthew Goode, Bill Bailey, Adrian Edmonson, Celia Imrie and Justin Edwards (to name just a few). The film was originally released in French last year.

– And finally, Kodansha Comics will continue to launch at least one “digital-first” manga comic series each week. Newsarama is reporting that July will see the release of five brand new manga series which, according to the official Kodansha Comics press release, will include a “shonen actioner… different looks at romance in a trio of shojo/josei titles, and even a Tokyo neighborhood guide in manga form.”
