– Newsarama reports “The Death of Doctor Strange” miniseries will be accompanied by several one-shots, including “Death of Doctor Strange: Avengers,” written by Alex Paknadel, with art by Ryan Bodenheim (“Red Mass for Mars”). The comic will see the evil deity Cyttorak, now emboldened in the wake of Strange’s death, unleashing havoc in Manhattan through his avatar, the Juggernaut. It will go on sale in October, shortly after the release of “Death of Doctor Strange” #1 on September 22.
– Via ICv2, Kodansha announced they will publish Akira: Art of the Wall, an art book that reproduces an art project inspired by Katsuhiro Otomo’s manga, and which was carried out with Otomo’s involvement. They also revealed they will rerelease three out-of-print Osamu Tezuka titles (“Apollo’s Song,” “Ode to Kirihito,” and “Princess Knight”) in new single-volume, omnibus editions. All of these books will be available in Spring 2022.
– Yesterday saw the release of Matteo Pizzolo and Anna “Muckraker” Wieszczyk’s “Godkiller: Tomorrow’s Ashes” #1, and to mark the occasion, publisher Black Mask Studios also surprise released “Godkiller: Walk Among Us” #8, an epilogue to the previous series that was previously only published in trade paperback. The Beat has more details.
– Speaking of Matteo Pizzolo, Deadline reports he is writing an animated series based on the superhero horror comic “Faust,” at Sony Pictures Television. Created by writer David Quinn and artist Tim Vigil in 1987, “Faust” followed John Jaspers, a vigilante who sold his soul to gain superpowers, and who must now rise up against Mephistopheles to rescue his lover, Dr. Jade DeCamp, and regain his soul. The series was previously adapted into the 2000 Spanish English-language film Faust: Love of the Damned, directed by Re-Animator producer Brian Yuzna.
– Via Anime News Network, Vinland Saga is returning for a second season. Based on Makoto Yukimura’s Viking manga, Vinland Saga is a loose retelling of the life of Icelandic explorer Thorfinn Karlsefni, one of the earliest Viking settlers of Vinland (modern Newfoundland). The first season premiered in July 2019, and was streamed globally by Amazon Prime. It will be released on home video with an English dub by Sentai Filmworks later this summer. It is unknown when season 2 will premiere.
– “The complete season 1” of the animated series Cleopatra in Space is being added to Hulu on Wednesday, July 14. The show, produced by DreamWorks and based on Mike Maihack’s Graphix books, was originally released exclusively on NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock. Maihack tweeted he was “excited about the show (and books) potentially reaching a wider audience.” Cleopatra in Space follows a teenage version of the Ancient Egyptian queen after she is transported 30,000 years into the future, where she learns she is the prophesied savior of the Nile Galaxy. A total of 26 episodes have been released at the time of writing.
– UK Stargirl fans won’t have to wait long for the second season, with Geektown reporting new episodes will be added to the show’s British home, Amazon Prime, the day after they premiere in the US. Stargirl season 2 premieres Tuesday, August 10, on the CW, and in the UK beginning August 11.
– MGM released a trailer for The Addams Family 2, the sequel to 2019’s animated movie, which sees the spooky, kooky clan on vacation. Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloe Grace Moretz, Nick Kroll, Snoop Dogg, and Bette Midler will all reprise their roles, while Javon “Wanna” Walton will be taking over from Finn Wolfhard as Pugsley. Bill Hader and Wallace Shawn will also voice new characters. The film will be released in theaters on October 1.
– Finally, Houston Public Media reported the city’s Third Planet Sci-Fi Superstore has filed a lawsuit against their neighbor, the hotel Crowne Plaza River Oaks, in a most unusual yet appropriate manner: with a 13-page comic book. The comic, created by Third Planet owner T.J. Johnson with various artists, alleges the hotel “allowed guests to throw ‘all manner of items’ off of the building’s balconies, including plates, luggage racks, and ladders — all of which caused damage to the shop’s roof.” The case is ongoing.
