Blade Runner is coming to Titan Comics, AfterShock announced “The Last Space Race” by Peter Calloway and Alex Shibao, Action Lab revealed “Spencer & Locke 2,” sci-fi legend William Gibson’s original, unproduced Alien 3 is coming to Dark Horse, Marvel have finally found their Black Widow director, and then there’s our monthly coverage of all things Mike Mignola in the monthly Mignolaversity update.

– BOOM! Studios are celebrating the 50th anniversary of Planet of the Apes with two one-shots. “Planet of the Apes: The Time of Man” #1, will feature writing from Dan Abnett (“Aquaman”), David Walker (“Luke Cage”) and Phillip Kennedy Johnson (“Low Road West”) with illustrations by Carlos Magno (“Kong of Skull Island”), George Schall (Dark Horse Presents”) and Morgan Beem (“The Family Trade”), this will feature stories from both the original films and the new series canon, including, for the first time ever, a story set after the events of War for the Planet of the Apes.

The second one-shot, “Planet of the Apes: The Simian Age” #1, will focus more on the simian characters at the heart of the franchise, this will be written by Matt Kindt (“Black Badge”) and Ryan Ferrier (“Kong on the Planet of the Apes”) and drawn by Matt Smith (“Lake of Fire”), Jared Cullum (“Fraggle Rock”) and Lalit Kumar-Sharma (“Planet of the Apes: Urus”). BOOM! Studios’ Editor, Cameron Chittock expressed his excitement, stating “Planet of the Apes is one of the most important science fiction franchises in pop culture and we’re honored to be part of this celebration.” He continued “some of the most exciting creators in comics will pay tribute to the classic and new series with new stories examining the many characters and eras that have contributed to the franchise’s enduring legacy.” “Planet of the Apes: The Time of Man” #1 will hit stores in October, and “Planet of the Apes: The Simian Age” will be available in December.

– Marvel have teased two character name changes and series yesterday: Spider-Gwen seems to be changing her name to Ghost-Spider, in line with the upcoming TV movie Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors. This comes as co-creators Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez are ending their run on the character with issue #34 this month. Then in a press release, Marvel teased a new series, “The Superior Octopus,” which sees the return of Otto Octavius as the Superior Spider-Man. There will be more news at San Diego Comic-Con, when Marvel have their Spider-Man panel on Friday, July 20, 12:30pm till 1.30pm PT.

– San Diego International Comic-Con should be a place to have fun and celebrate our love of all things geek but some fans are letting the side down. Writer Eric M. Esquivel has been on the receiving end of some very nasty comments, even death threats over his migration themed DC Vertigo series “Border Town.” He is a Latino born in the United States and has a great resume, which includes “Adventure Time” and “Sonic the Hedgehog.” In light of all this Esquivel is remaining positive, focusing on the release of “Border Town,” which hits stores September 5.

– The new showrunner of The Walking Dead Angela Kang, exclusively revealed on Entertainment Weekly several images of the new season. It looks like there will be a time jump of a few years, and a look at how society and structures will fade and disintegrate over time. Kang explains “We’ll explore what happened as man-made objects and structures break down,” continuing; “Infrastructure like roads and bridges are changing and crumbling. And we’ll also explore what happens as resources are getting low.” Also in regards to the time jumps she added, “There’s a fun Western vibe that has emerged. We are going into a period where a lot of things that we’ve seen in previous seasons have broken down, so they’ve got these horses and carriages that are being drawn around instead of cars. Things are lit with oil lamps. People are using different kinds of weaponry. There’s a real grittiness to it that I think will be fun and fresh for the viewers.”
