In case you missed it, Paris, 13th District (Les Olympiades) and Where is Anne Frank premiered at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival and released their trailers. DC Comics also announced two new series for Halloween called “Task Force Z” and “DC vs. Vampires.”

– Marvel have announced “Darkhold: Iron Man” #1, written by Ryan North with art by Guillermo Sanna. Marvel calls it “the body-horror tale of the century,” with the official description reading, “Called forth to face the dread god Chthon, Iron Man reads from the ancient ill-fated text the Darkhold… and it changes the course of his entire life. The armor that has saved him countless times is about to become a prison — one whose only escape is a fate worse than death.” “Darkhold: Iron Man” #1 will be released in October after the ‘Darkhold’ event kicks off in September.
– Image Comics have announced “Two Moons” will kick off a new story arc this October. Written by John Arcud with art by Valerio Giangiordano, “Two Moons” #6 will begin the next chapter of the horror series, and provide a jumping on point for new readers in time for Halloween. Image says, “After years apart, Frances Shaw (now a medical doctor) and Virgil Two Moons (now a Pawnee shaman) are once again drawn to each other on the eve of an impending crisis in ‘Two Moons’ #6.” “Two Moons” #6 will be available at comic book shops on Wednesday, October 27.
– In a press release, AfterShock Comics have announced “Campisi: The Dragon Incident” from James Patrick and Marco Locati will be the publisher’s 100th title. “Campisi: The Dragon Incident” will chronicle how Sonny Campisi, a fixer for the mob that controls the Brooklyn-like neighborhood of Green Village, will solve a problem unlike any he’s ever faced: namely, a dragon that has flown into town. AfterShock’s Editor-in-Chief, Mike Marts, said, “As we near the debut of our 100th title, we’ve exceeded even our own expectations… With much more on the horizon, the best is yet to come as we continue to bring the most ‘dangerous’ stories to life.”
– Shannon Hale and LeUyen Pham, creators of the graphic novels “Real Friends” and “Best Friends,” are offering fans a chance to win a virtual classroom or library visit. All who enter will receive a Best School Year Ever kick-off video featuring Shannon Hale. Fans will have to enter by July 30th. The third book in the series, “Friends Forever,” follows Shannon as she navigates her life in eighth grade. “Friends Forever” is set to be released on August 31, 2021.
– Ryan Reynolds has made his first official appearance as Deadpool in the MCU, alongside Taika Waititi as Korg, in a video to promote their new movie Free Guy (which is being distributed by Marvel’s sister studio 20th Century Studios.) Deadpool is the only actor/character/franchise confirmed to have been imported from 20th Century’s X-Men franchise into the Marvel Studios universe. Earlier this year, Marvel’s Kevin Feige confirmed that Deadpool 3 is in the works at Marvel Studios, with Ryan Reynolds producing and starring in the film. Deadpool 3 is currently in development at Marvel Studios. Free Guy hits theaters on August 13th.
– Via CBR, three brand new attractions are headed to Universal Studios Japan later this year, all of which are based around the world and characters of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. The Demon Slayer attractions are set to begin opening at Universal Studios Japan starting September 17 this year, and remain open until February 13, 2022. Over its six-month stay at the park, Demon Slayer will accompany the recently opened Super Nintendo World theme park. The second season of Demon Slayer is scheduled to premiere sometime before the end of 2021. The first season of the anime is available for streaming on Netflix, Hulu and Funimation, while the Mugen Train movie is exclusively available on Funimation.
– DC have announced that Venus Ariel, Rutina Wesley, Nora Dunn, Jade Wu, Rey Gallegos, Mamie Gummer, Agam Darshi, Juani Feliz, and Henry G. Sanders have all joined the cast of DMZ, the HBO Max event series based on the Vertigo comic by Brian Wood and Riccardo Burchielli. In addition, the behind-the-scenes creative team added two award-winning executive producers to its crew, namely Ernest Dickerson, and Carly Wray. Dickerson will direct three of the series’ four episodes, after the pilot helmed by co-executive producer Ava DuVernay. Wray has also joined the series’ writing team.
– The nominations for the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards are in: Disney+ scored big with The Mandalorian picking up 24 nominations including Outstanding Drama Series, and WandaVision picking up 23, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. Elizabeth Olsen, Kathryn Hahn and Paul Bettany were all nominated for their roles inWandaVision, while Giancarlo Esposito, Timothy Olyphant, and Carl Weathers all received nominations for their roles in The Mandalorian. The Boys was also nominated in Drama Series, a first for comic book adaptations, while Don Cheadle received an Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series nomination for his cameo in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (much to the actor’s own confusion.) – Finally, just hours after being nominated for an Emmy, word broke via Deadline that WandaVision director Matt Shakman will helm the next Star Trek movie, due out June 9, 2023. The film will be again produced by J.J. Abrams, but it is unknown if the cast of his movies are returning. The script was written by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet, which will make it the first Star Trek film with female screenwriters.
