Welcome to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.

In case you missed it:
– IDW are going to be publishing all-age Marvel Comics starting with Spider-Man
– Ian Boothby and Gisele Lagace have a new series at Image called “ExorSisters”
Wreck-It Ralph is getting a choose-your-own-adventure style graphic novel at Dark Horse Comics
– Shuri, Black Panther’s sister will be the star of her own comic
– The first wave of Millarworld Netflix adaptations were announced
– G. Willow Wilson and Christian Ward are creating sci-fi comic “Invisible Kingdom” at Dark Horse Comics

With so many stories breaking, there were a lot that we didn’t have time to cover, which you can read below:

'Battlestar Galactica' #0

– Kicking off, Dynamite Entertainment will mark the 40th anniversary of Battlestar Galactica with a new miniseries by writer John Jackson Miller (“Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic”) and artist Daniel HDR (“Red Sonja”). The new comic will pick up after the original show’s first season, when “Commander Adama and the remnants of humanity discover a second fugitive fleet, fleeing a different mortal enemy.” An issue 0 will be released in October, and retail for just 35 cents. And in the meantime, be sure to check our Summer Binge of the reimagining here.

– Rainbow Brite will return in a new comic series for younger readers at Dynamite. “Rainbow Brite,” which is based on Hallmark’s media franchise from the 1980s, will be written by Jeremy Whitley with art by Brittney Williams. The series tells the story of two best friends, Wisp and Willow, who have to go on an adventure following Wisp’s discovery of “something… stealing the color from the world” with “the help of a new friend… from somewhere else!” “Rainbow Brite” #1 will launch, with a collection of variant covers, this October.

– There’s another returning character this October at Dynamite, with Miss Fury set to star in a new series, “Miss Fury: Joy Division.” The comic will explore the tragedy of the Nazis’ Joy Division, courtesy of multi-Eisner nominated writer Billy Tucci along with artwork from Emma Kubert. Tucci describes his plans to keep in line with creator June Tarpe Mills’s “true vision that includes her original cast of characters and the intriguing storylines” that came together to create the “icon.” “Miss Fury: Joy Division” #1 will release with variant covers from artists including Ken Lashley (“Black Panther”) and Jan Duursema (“Star Wars”).

– The Dynamite announcements just kept on coming with a new “Mars Attacks!” series being written by Kyle Starks, with artwork by Chris Schweizer, starting this October. The pair have previously worked together at Image Comics on “Rock Candy Mountain.” The series will follow Spencer, who, on a visit to his dad to borrow some money, finds himself and his father on the run from Martians. (I don’t think that is quite what he expected.) The classic franchise will return in October, with a host of artists providing variant covers.

– This Halloween, Dynamite will be launching five standalone specials for the occasion. The specials will include “Red Sonja,” “Vampirella,” “Bettie Page,” “Elvira” and “Army of Darkness.” Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite stated that “legendary writers such as Tom Defalco and Scott Lobdell” will be involved. Each ‘Halloween Special’ will be 40 pages long.

Now for everything non-Dynamite related:

– Lights’s six-issue “Skin & Earth” comic book series is going to be “adapted for television as well as digital and gaming content” by Entertainment One, who have secured the IP for the series. The TV series will be produced by Andrew Lazar of Mad Chance Productions, who produced the award-winning American Sniper. Lights stated that she is “beyond excited to explore my relationship with eOne and introducing the characters and ethos of Skin & Earth to new audiences.” Lights created the comic series entirely by herself as a companion piece to her fourth studio album of the same name. Details on where and when the series will air were not disclosed.

– Typhoid Mary is returning to New York City in “Typhoid Fever: Spider-Man” #1 this October. In the series, the villain targets Hell’s Kitchen while Daredevil is busy trying to take down Mayor Wilson Fisk, so Spider-Man, the X-Men and Iron Fist have to step up in his absence. The series will be written by Clay Mcleod Chapman (“Edge of Venomverse”), who according to editor Devin Lewis, is determined to use Typhoid Mary’s powerset in ways “never seen before.” Lewis was also excited about revealing what artist Stefano Landini (“Daredevil”) has done with the script. “Typhoid Fever: Spider-Man” #1 will be available October 3.

– Batwoman has her own series in development at the CW, according to Variety. The network announced last month that Batwoman would be featuring in this year’s crossover event for The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl, but now a series is being scheduled for 2019, should it get picked up. Caroline Dries will be tasked with the role of writer and executive producer for the show, continuing her relationship with the CW after her work on The Vampire Diaries and Melrose Place. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns will also serve as executive producers of the series. The series will be produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

– According to Deadline, there is a new member of the Spider-Man: Far From Home cast: Numan Acar. Details as to the character Acar (The Great Wall, the Aladdin remake) will be playing in the film are being kept under wraps, with only his character’s name, Dimitri, being released. Acar is the latest addition to the cast, along with J.B Smoove and Jake Gyllenhaal. The trio will be joining the returning cast of Tom Holland, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei and Michael Keaton for Jon Watts’s sequel, set for release on July 5th, 2019.

– Marvel latest storytelling initiative, ‘Marvel Rising,’ is getting an animated TV series and an animated TV movie. The animated shorts, titled Marvel Rising: Initiation, will air August 13 on Disney XD before culminating with an animated film Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors, which is set to air this fall. The film will see Ghost-Spider team up with Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, Quake, and Patriot to fight an unexpected threat. The initiative was made to focus on the young female fans in their audience and features the young and diverse superheroes of Marvel Comics, many of whom have recently been introduced or rebooted. There’s already been some tie-in comics too, with the next, “Marvel Rising: Ms. Marvel & Squirrel Girl” #1, being released August 1.

– Yvonne Blake, designer of the classic Superman costume in the 1978 film, has died at the age of 78, after suffering a stroke earlier this year. She was also best known as the costume designer on films such as 1966’s Fahrenheit 451, and 1971’s Nicholas and Alexandra, which won her the Oscar for Best Costume Design. Blake’s most recent career move was becoming the President for the Spanish Film Academy in July 2016. The current Spanish Film Academy President Mariano Barroso credited Blake for her “enormous generosity, her passion and her dedication” and described her work in the role as “decisive for the new stage of modernization that [they] are experiencing.” Vice President Nora Navas stated that Blake would “forever be part of this family of cinema for her immense talent.”
