– Marvel have also announced a new story arc kicking off in Jed MacKay and Alessandro Cappuccio’s “Moon Knight” #28, entitled ‘The Last Days of Moon Knight.’ Marvel’s synopsis reads: “‘The Last Days of Moon Knight’ will see Moon Knight in a deadly race to intercept the Black Spectre before his apocalyptic schemes bear fruit — but the clock is ticking, and a city hangs in the balance. And when the dust settles, a new vengeance will be born.” “Moon Knight” #28 releases on October 18, 2023.
– Rounding out the Marvel news via Popverse, the company announced “Hallows’ Eve: The Big Night” #1 from writer Erica Schultz and artist Michael Dowling. The book follows Hallows’ Eve as she tries to save a group of kids at a Halloween party. Marvel’s description goes on to say “Hallows’ Eve was once powerless and was once a victim. Now she’s anything but. Her magical masks give her the ability to help – but Eve isn’t a hero, is she?” “Hallows’ Eve: The Big Night” #1 will be released alongside the first collection “Hallows’ Eve,” on October 24, 2023.
– Via IGN, Oni Press have announced “Faceless and the Family,” a four-part limited series from Matt Lesniewski. The book follows a wanderer known only as Faceless on a broken world known as Hand Planet. Faceless, exiled for his crimes that removed his name and identity, will have to help a new group of travelers if he wants to make them his family. “Faceless and the Family” will debut in November.
– Via Anime News Network, Mangasplaining has licensed Atsushi Kaneko’s “Search and Destroy” and are set to begin serializing it, beginning in the Mangasplaining Extra newsletter in August. Ben Applegate will translate manga, and Phil Christie is handling lettering duties. While some chapters may drop free of cost, paid subsribers will have access to the whole managa as it’s released. Fantagraphics will publish the manga in print some time in 2024.
– Publishers Weekly reports Dark Horse will release “Loving, Ohio,” a slasher YA graphic novel by writer Matthew Erman (“Witchblood”) and artist Sam Beck (“Verse”). The book follows a group of teens investigating a friend’s death and the disappearances of other kids in the title town, leading them “down a path of cult conspiracy and supernatural horror.” It will be released in August 2024.
The magazine also shares Random House Studio will publish the tentatively named “Tadpoles,” a middle-grade graphic novel by Liz Montague (“Maybe, An Artist”). The book follows “the trials and tribulations of three cabinmates at sleepaway camp who are fresh out of sixth grade,” as they “navigate their first big feelings: crushes, betrayals, ambition, family drama, and more.” It will be released in Summer 2025, and be followed by another, unnamed book by Montague.
– Via The Direct, Lando writer/producer Justin Simien revealed he hasn’t spoken to Lucasfilm about the project since 2020. “I was told we had to put a pause on it because of scheduling, and the next update I got [was in 2020], some years ago,” he said. “So I don’t know, I have no idea what’s going on with it.” Simien, whose new film Haunted Mansion opens on July 28, was announced as showrunner on the Disney+ series during 2020’s Disney Investor Day. Kathleen Kennedy stated the show was still a priority at this year’s Star Wars Celebration, although the news, and the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike suggests it’ll happen later than sooner.
– CBR’s Stephen Gerding has launched a GoFundMe for the site’s former features editor Kevin Melrose. According to the GoFundMe, Melrose has suffered a stroke, leaving him partially paralyzed with diminished cognitive abilities. Melrose was co-creator of CBR’s comics culture blog Robot 6, and helmed Spinoff Online, its first foray into covering movies and television. He later developed and ran CBR’s features department as its first Senior Features Editor. You can take a look at the GoFundMe here.
