– The first trailer for Professor Marston and The Wonder Women has arrived. The film will follow the life of Wonder Woman’s creator William Moulton Marston and the two women that inspired her Elizabeth Marston, his wife, and Olive Byrne, their mistress. It will star Luke Evans as Diana’s creator, Rebecca Hall as his wife, and Bella Heathcote as Byrne. The film is set to debut sometime this fall.
– Marvel has announced a new series entitled “Deadpool vs Old Man Logan” written by Declan Shalvey and drawn by Mike Henderson. Henderson describes the book as a “not so buddy-buddy buddy comedy with all the bickering, explosions and stabbing you’d expect from a comic starring Deadpool and Logan as they both race to do their version of the right thing by a young mutant.” The five issue mini-series is set to debut on October 18th.
– Hot on the heels of a successful Kickstarter campaign to get Bill Mantlo and Butch Guice’s “Swords of the Swashbucklers” back in comic stores, Dynamite Entertainment has announced that Marc Guggenheim will be taking the reins of a new ongoing “Swords of the Swashbucklers” series. No artist has been named for the project as of yet, however, there are reportedly plans to shop the film and television rights to the property around in the near future.
– Stan Lee was honored yesterday with a hand and footprint ceremony for the Hollywood Walk of Fame in front of the TCL Chinese Theatre. The famed comic creator has also spent years working in film and television, since he moved to LA in 1981 as part of Marvel’s TV and movie initiative. He currently works for his company POW! Entertainment where he generates ideas which are given to writers to be further developed into TV and comics.
– Guillermo del Toro’s family-friendly animated series Trollhunters which debuted on Netflix last December is making the jump to comics. “Trollhunter: The Secret History of Trollkind” is a graphic novel that will follow an original story in the Trollhunters universe. The book will be written by Marc Guggenheim and Richard Hamilton, drawn by Timothy Green II, colored by Wes Dzioba and will be published by Dark Horse Comics. This is just the latest in collaborations between del Toro and Dark Horse who also worked on comics for The Strain.
– Seeing as it’s the week of SDCC there have been a slew of comic previews released this week. This includes a preview of IDW’s five-issue mini-series “Ghostbuster: Answer the Call” which is written by Kelly Thompson and drawn by Corin Howell. IDW has also released a preview for the first book to come from former-Vertigo executive editor Shelly Bond’s new imprint Black Crown, “Kid Lobotomy.” That series will be written by Peter Milligan and drawn by Tess Fowler. Lastly a first look was shown of Lindsey Stirling’s new book “The Sparrow” which is to be written and drawn by Darick Robertson and co-written by R. Eric Lieb.
– Comic writer and natural enemy of the bodily function of sleeping, Charles Soule has debuted the cover and description of his new novel “The Oracle Year.” The novel will be published in hardcover, as an e-book, and in digital audio through Harper Perennial on April 3rd, 2018. It will feature a story that follows a bassist who wakes up one day with 108 predictions of the future and begins sharing them through an anonymous online website.
– IDW has entered into an agreement with Glenat which will allow the two companies to co-publish OGNs simultaneously in both the North American and French markets. This initiative is slated to start off with “The Highest House,” a series by Mike Carey and Peter Gross which will be published as an OGN in France by Glenat, while it will be serialized and then collected by IDW in North America.
– Walton Goggins has been cast in an unspecified role in Ant-Man and the Wasp. The Django Unchained actor will appear alongside Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michael Pena, and T.I. in the Peyton Reed directed sequel to 2015’s Ant-Man.
– KFC and DC Comics have announced the third installment of their Colonel Sanders/Justice League team-up comic which will be available in print exclusively at San Diego Comic Con. The book which features a team up between the Colonel and Green Lantern will be written by Tony Bedard, drawn by Tom Derenick, and inked by Trevor Scott and Sean Parsons.
– Marvel Entertainment CEO Ike Perlmutter is receiving the new title of Chairman. This doesn’t come with any change in Perlmutter’s duties, but is a result of Disney’s acquisition of Marvel as Disney’s Bob Iger is the only executive in the company to hold the title of CEO.
