In case you missed it yesterday, DC teased the new Tom King, Mitch Gerads, and Evan “Doc” Shaner series “Strange Adventures.” Other highlights from San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend include Marvel Studios Phase 4 announcements, the X-Men line relaunch details, Scott Snyder, Charles Soule, and Giuseppe Camuncoli’s new Image series, and more. – Kicking off, editor Alejandro Arbona tweeted out a teaser announcing the return of “The Old Guard” in a new series, “The Old Guard Chapter Two: Force Multiplied.” The Image Comics series, written by Greg Rucka, illustrated by Leandro Fernández, colored by Daniela Miwa, and lettered by Jodi Wynne, finished its first arc in June 2017. The series was also optioned by Netflix earlier this year. No release date was given, though Amazon has a trade paperback for the new series dated for December 2020.
– Jonathan Hickman gave a little bit more scope to the upcoming plans for the X-Men line at his spotlight panel at SDCC Sunday. In addition to talking about the X-Men, Hickman revealed he has a few more things at work at Marvel, that “The Dying & The Dead” and “Black Monday Murders” are coming back next year, “East of West” will resume in the fall, and that the “East of West” television show is no longer at Amazon. – Kevin Feige clarified the status of Blade announced last night at the Marvel Studios panel. Feige stated that the film, which will star Mahershala Ali in the title role, is not going to be a part of Phase 4. The films and Disney+ properties that were revealed last night are the entirety of Phase 4 as it is planned at the moment, and the earliest Blade will appear is Phase 5. – Warner Bros. Television announced that actress Shannen Doherty (90210) will star in the upcoming season four premiere of Riverdale, which will serve as a sendoff for actor Luke Perry who died during production of the third season this last year. Doherty and Perry previously starred in 90210 together. The episode is entitled “Chapter Fifty-Eight: In Memoriam,” and will premiere on the CW on October 9, 2019.
– The upcoming live-action One Piece series has signed on writer Matt Owens as revealed in the latest issue of “Shonen Jump.” Owens has writing credits on the live-action Marvel series Luke Cage, The Defenders, and Agents of SHIELD. No release or production dates have been announced yet.
