In case you missed it, Scott Snyder announced eight books from his imprint, Best Jackett Press, will be published by comiXology and Dark Horse. Image has also become the new home of Kurt Busiek’s creator-owned comics, including “Astro City.”

– Udon Entertainment has announced that that they will be releasing “The Rose of Versailles Episodes” manga series in a two-volume collection in Spring 2022. The book will feature the entirety of the spin-off stories from “The Rose of Versailles,” which detail parallel lives for the cast of characters from the main series. Created by Riyoko Ikeda, “The Rose of Versailles” began in 1972, and was followed up by “The Rose of Versailles Episodes” in 2013. This collection is the first time that the spin-off will be collected in English. “The Rose of Versailles” has also been adapted into an anime series, an animated and live-action film, and multiple musical productions.
– During San Diego Comic-Con, fans of Dragon Ball Super got their first look at the upcoming Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero anime film. Toei released the first teaser for the film, which shines a spotlight on the superhero aspect of Dragon Ball, while revealing its title and a look at many character designs for returning favorites Goku, Krillin, Piccolo, and Pan. Also shown was a new, unnamed character who will be debuting in the feature. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero will be the twenty-first anime film in the Dragon Ball franchise, and is set to release sometime in Japan in 2022.
– Platinum End, a new anime series from the creators of Death Note, will be available to stream in the west via Crunchyroll starting this fall. The show will have 24 episodes across the first season, and focuses on a young student named Mirai Kakehashi, who attempts to kill himself before he is saved by a literal guardian angel. This angel then explains that Mirai has been selected for a competition to replace God, who will be retiring in 999 days. The show is an adaptation of the “Platinum End” manga series, which was written by Tsugumi Ohba, and drawn by Takeshi Obata, and ran from November 2015 through January 2021.
– Nickelodeon has released the first trailer for the upcoming animated series Star Trek: Prodigy. The show, which will be available on both Nickelodeon and Paramount+, features the return of Kate Mulgrew as Captain Kathryn Janeway, from Star Trek: Voyager. The trailer highlights the many new characters of Star Trek: Prodigy, as Captain Janeway prepares to guide them across the stars. Additionally, fans were given a new look at the second season of Star Trek: Lower Decks. The new footage showed off many new and returning faces, including Robbie McNeill as Tom Paris, also of Star Trek: Voyager fame. Season two of Star Trek: Lower Decks will will be available on Paramount+ starting August 12.
– Disney has announced their plans for the home video release of Black Widow. The movie, which came out on July 9 in the United States, will be coming out on Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD, and DVD on September 14, but will be available on digital platforms starting August 10. The home video editions of Black Widow will feature a host of bonus content, including bloopers, multiple featurettes centered around the movie’s core cast, and deleted scenes. Among the deleted scenes are an additional motorcycle chase sequence, a look at Natasha’s childhood, and an extended training session featuring the Widows program and Taskmaster.
– Actor Nick Creegan will be joining the cast of the CW’s Batwoman series in the upcoming season three. He will be playing Marquis Jet, a charming playboy with a playful attitude who gets himself into trouble. His fun-loving lifestyle leads him to cross paths with Javicia Leslie’s Ryan Wilder aka Batwoman, who he develops a bond with. Creegan is the latest addition to the Batwoman cast, which also recently announced that it will be bringing on Victoria Cartagena as Renee Montoya for the third season. New episodes of Batwoman begin airing on October 13.
– Finally, actress Lea Thompson has revealed that she pitched directing a new Howard the Duck film for Marvel. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the original Howard the Duck movie, Thompson discussed her affinity for all things Howard and how she worked with Chip Zdarsky and Joe Quinones on the pitch. Ultimately, Marvel Studios turned down the idea because it didn’t line up with their existing plans. Still, Thompson has made it clear over the years that she has fond associations of her time with the top-billed duck, famously getting herself drawn into the comic series during Zdarsky and Quinones’s run on “Howard the Duck.”
