– Jeff Lemire took to his substack to announce “Royal City Vol. 2: The Last Days of Richie Pike.” After teasing the series for some time now, Lemire said he’d be launching it in the fall of 2023, and that Image’s “Image 30th Anniversary Anthology’ #5 will feature an 8-page teaser for the new series. “Image 30th Anniversary Anthology” #5 will be available in comics shops on August 31, 2022. – Saladin Ahmed announced on his Substack that his run on “Miles Morales: Spider-Man” will be coming to an end with issue #42. Ahmed went on to say that this was a long planned exit, and the intended ending to his run. Ahmed took over Miles’s solo series in 2018, and has served as the series writer in the four years since. Ahmed said “Miles Morales is here to stay. You guys are gonna be thrilled to see where he goes next. And for my part, it’s been an honor and a privelge doing my little bit to help him get where he is today.” The oversized “Miles Morales: Spider-Man” #42 will be available in comic shops in September with a slew of interior artists, and a cover by Taurin Clarke. – Rounding out a number of Substack announcements today, Chip Zdarksy released a video spoofing MasterClass about creating comics over on It’s Chip Zdarsky’s Newsletter, Okay?. The six minute video, entitled “CHIPCLASS 1” (which seems to indicate more to come) details the comics Zdarsky has read, and how fans seek out his secret to success. Zdarsky’s creator-owned “Public Domain” #2 is available from today.
– Marvel have announced “T.E.S.T. Kitchen,” written by chef Paul Eschbach with art from E.J. Su. The new Infinity comic will follow a high-end chef named Anna, who starts a food truck, only to have Tony Stark crash land on it. Now she has an opportunity of a lifetime: working for Stark Industries. “T.E.S.T. Kitchen” will debut August 8, 2022 on Marvel Unlimited.
– Via DowntheTubes.net, footballer and author Marcus Rashford will guest-edit “The Beano” #4146. In addition to the guest-editor spot, Rashford will be featured in the comic as well, “creating mischief and mayhem alongside iconic characters such as Bananaman, Billy Whizz and the Bash Street Kids.” Rashford said, “I jumped at the chance because this is a great opportunity for you to get to know me a little better and understand all the things that are important to me.” The special guest editorship is also part of NatWest’s Thrive program, created in partnership with Rashford and the National Youth Agency, aimed at helping children ages 6-16 be more financially confident. “Beano” #4146 is available in the UK as of today.
– Finally, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton will helm the recently announced Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. Cretton has an overall deal with Marvel and as such, is also developing a Shang-Chi sequel, and will produce a Wonder Man-centered show for Disney+. In addition to that, Marvel also confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Bassam Tariq will direct Blade (slated for a Nov. 3, 2023 release), Julius Onah will helm Captain America: New World Order (May 3, 2024), and Jake Schreier will direct Thunderbolts (July 26, 2024).
