– Via his Substack, Scott Snyder revealed plot details for “White Boat,” his collaboration with Francesco Francavilla for new publisher DSTLRY. “White Boat,” which is featured in “The Devil’s Cut” one-shot, centers around somebody who receives an invitation onto a super yacht. Once aboard, this person goes on a horrifying and wondrous journey that includes Lovecraftian elements, with other hints of seafaring folklore. Snyder said he originally planned to keep the story contained to the boat, but has since thought of new ways the story could go. In his post, entitled “Be Flexible, Yankees!,” Snyder explains the importance of being flexible in comics and used this story as an example of challenges that may arise. Fans can get a first look at “White Boat” in the upcoming “The Devil’s Cut”#1, which will be released on August 30, 2023.
– Rebellion have announced that Steve Morris has been hired as the new Marketing Manager for 2000 AD & Graphic Novels. In his new position, Morris will work with “2000 AD” Brand Manager Michael Molcher to “market and publicize Rebellion’s growing stable of new comics and extensive archive of more than a century of British comics publishing,” as well as new comic collections. Morris previously worked as Marketing Manager for Ryley Wealth Management. He’s also written for The Beat, Comic Book Herald and others. In a statement, Morris said “I’m incredibly excited to be able to cross through The Forbidden Door and move from comics criticism into comics marketing.”
– Via Publishers Weekly, Disney Publishing imprint Hyperion Avenue will launch Marvel Crime, a “hard-edged crime-fiction program for adults.” The iniative will feature three novels from best-selling crime and mystery authors. First up, Lisa Jewell will write a story about Jessica Jones. Next, S.A. Cosby will write a story about Luke Cage. The final book will feature Daredevil and be written by Alex Segura. The first title will debut in 2024, with the following two releasing in 2025.
– Mahmud Asrar tweeted that he has received the Rankin – Artistic Achievement Award from the Robert E. Howard Foundation for his work on “King Conan.” Founded in 2006, the Robert E. Howard Foundation aims to conserve the archives of Howard’s writings and legacy. It also promotes young writers and artists and offers scholarships, as well as the aforementioned awards. The award was previously announced in May, and you can check out the full list of winners at the link. “King Conan” ran for six issues at Marvel in 2022, and was the publisher’s last Conan the Barbarian series before the license moved to Titan.
– Kickstarter unveiled its new AI policy, which is set to go into effect on August 29. The new policy states that any project which uses AI art must disclose all relevant details on their project page. It also states that any projects developing AI technology must disclose any information about databases and data the project will use. If these policies are vilolated the projects may be suspended. – Via Collider, Sony will release Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse digitally on Tuesday, August 8, and on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD on September 5, 2023. The digital, 4K and Blu-ray releases will feature 90 mins of exclusives, including easter eggs, deleted scenes and commentary. The news comes shortly after it was announced that its sequel, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, has been delayed indefinitely.
– Lastly, Netflix have released the trailer for the fifth season of Disenchantment, which reveals it will be the show’s last. The final season teases a slew of battles before the end, following on from the end of Part 4, where it became apparent Bean would have to defeat her mother to save everyone in Dreamland. Disenchantment Part 5 will premiere on September 1, 2023. You can watch the trailer here.
