Motor Crush #12

– Babs Tarr, Cameron Stewart, and Brenden Fletcher’s high-octane mystery adventure story “Motor Crush” is going to go on a hiatus, instead of starting their new arc this September. The already solicited issue 12 has been canceled, with the series switching from the monthly format to become a graphic novel series. As Tarr explained on Twitter, the monthly schedule had become too stressful, and she is now “excited to not be locked into 22 pg story beats.” The third volume is due out next summer.

– A new Mickey Mouse graphic novel, “Disney’s Treasure Island” will be on the shelves October 31, just in time for Mickey Mouse’s 90th Anniversary. This new Disney version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel from Dark Horse Comics, starring Mickey Mouse, Goofy and Pegleg Pete, is adapted by writer Teresa Radice, and artist Stefano Turconi.

– Marvel has had to update the solicitation for the new “Unstoppable Wasp” series expected on the shelves in October. The series by returning writer Jeremy Whitley, with art by “Avatar The Last Airbender” and “Gwenpool” artist Gurihiru, was erroneously listed as a miniseries, when it was announced as an ongoing book. “It seems some wires got crossed in solicitation and it was listed as a mini,” Whitley told Newsarama.

– After next week’s knock-down-drag-out throw down between Batman and the Red Hood, Jason Todd is getting a new costume debuting in “Red Hood and The Outlaws” #26. “DC Nation #3” has a complete look at artist Pete Woods’s design process, but in case you didn’t pick that up, CBR.com has a look at the finished version.

– Jeff Smith’s new “Bone” related project, “Smiley’s Dream Book,” takes the author into new territory as he’s aiming at a different audience. At The New York Times, Smith explained how the new picture book volume, targeted at two to six-year olds, was spurred by both his love of his long running characters, and his memories of “Peanuts” strips as a child.

– “Youngblood” issues #13 and #14 have been canceled in their current form to be a part of an upcoming Image event, expected to launch on November 8th. ‘The Blood War’ arc, written by Chad Bowers (or ‘Bloodwars,’ as Rob Liefeld called it on Twitter), was originally scheduled to start on July 25th.

– Following Image’s lead, Archie’s “Riverdale” title spinning out of the television series will be ending early, as they just canceled #13 and #14. The series is planned to return with a new #1 to coincide with the start of season three on October 10.

Two conventions of note were covered on The Beat. Comic Con Seoul is happening this weekend, and hosting many Korean comics creators in addition to Ezra Miller, Michael Rooker, and Greg Pak. And Ace Comic Con will hit Chicago this October, promising celebrity guests including Tom Hiddleston, Josh Brolin, Zazie Beetz and Chris Evans, as well as wrestlers like Alexa Bliss and Seth Rolins.

– Fresh off of starring opposite Tom Cruse in Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Rebecca Ferguson has landed a choice spot in the Men in Black spin-off opposite Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson, Rafe Spall, and Kumail Nanjiani.

– Sony Pictures has reportedly tapped Equalizer 2 screenwriter Richard Wenk to script the upcoming Kraven The Hunter feature film. Sony announced the project along with the Silver and Black film about Silver Sable and Black Cat, with their intention to pursue projects spotlighting other Spider-Man heavies including Mysterio (played by Jake Gyllenhaal in Spider-Man: Far From Home), and Morbius the Living Vampire.
