In case you missed it, we have an exclusive preview of this week’s “Hunt for Wolverine: The Adamantium Agenda” #4.

Star Trek: Waypoint #1

– At the Star Trek Las Vegas Convention, IDW Publishing announced the anthology comic “Star Trek: Waypoint” would return this November for an extended one-shot, with stories written by Brandon Easton, Jackson Lanzig and Collin Kelly, Dave Baker and Nicole Goux, and Matthew Dow Smith, and illustrated by Goux, Smith, Sonny Liew, and Josh Hood.

Furthermore, Patrick Stewart confirmed he will return as Jean-Luc Picard in a new CBS All Access series, separate from Star Trek Discovery. The show, which marks the first time Stewart has played Picard since 2002’s Star Trek Nemesis, will pick up with the character 20 years later. The show’s writers include Discovery series/comics scribe Kirsten Beyer, executive producer Alex Kurtzman, and novelist/screenwriter Michael Chabon.

– Valiant Comics announced December’s “Livewire” series, written by Vita Ayala with art by Raúl Allén and Patricia Martín, will become an ongoing series. The comic, which follows the character after the events of this summer’s storyline ‘Harbinger Wars 2,’ was originally planned as a limited series.

– Declining print sales have led Action Lab Entertainment to cancel forthcoming physical copies of titles like “Midnight Tiger: Stronger,” Princeless: Raven Year 2,” and “Toyetica.” “We had some issues with sales earlier in the year and to their credit, fans of the series rallied,” “Princeless” writer/co-creator Jeremy Whitley told Newsarama. “The book is doing very well, but all of those numbers continue to be in digital and trade sales, while physical single issues continue to decline.” The series will still be collected in paperback.

– In New Zealand, a historical graphic novel, “Te Tiriti o Waitangi,” has been made available in every school across the country. The book, written by Ross Calman and Mark Derby, and illustrated by Toby Morris, retells the country’s history up until the signing of Treaty of Waitangi in 1840, and is aimed at 10 to 12-year olds. The book is only available in schools and can’t be purchased, but a PDF copy can be downloaded here.

– At the Television Critics Association’s summer press event, FX CEO John Landgraf revealed the network’s adaptation of “Y: The Last Man” will be simply titled Y. “I guess you tend to see one or two word titles,” he said, acknowledging other FX shows like Legion and Atlanta. He added, “‘Y’ seems like a provocative shape. We can do a lot with it graphically. It’s a little mysterious.” Y, based on Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s Vertigo comic book, will star Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk), Diane Lane, Imogen Poots, and many more.

– Circle Pit Press, a new creative collective for comic book creators from the world of punk music and heavy metal, has been formed by Matt Miner (“GWAR: Orgasmageddon,” “Poser”), Kelly Williams (“WWE,” “The Dark”), Marie Enger (“Adventure Time”), Jonathan Brandon Sawyer (“Critical Hit”), Ray Nadine (“Messenger,” “Dollhouse”), and several others. While not a traditional publisher, creators involved can publish under the CPP banner, and there are projects using the name in the works.

The Batman director Matt Reeves denied rumors the upcoming movie is based on “Batman: Year One,” and revealed he is still talking to Ben Affleck about him reprising the role. “We’re not doing an origin tale or anything like that,” he said. “We’re doing a story that is definitively Batman though and trying to tell a story that’s emotional and yet is really about him being the world’s greatest detective and all the things that for me, since I was a kid, made me love Batman.” The film’s release date is currently undecided.

– According to Bloomberg, Disney is seeking to buy back the TV rights to the Star Wars movies. The company had sold them to Turner Broadcasting in 2016, before plans for their unnamed streaming service went ahead.

– Negan from The Walking Dead will be among the characters coming to the fighting game Tekken 7, as part of the game’s second season pass. You can watch the teaser trailer for the character’s introduction here

– Finally, to mark the release of “The Sandman Universe” #1 this week, we asked you to vote for your favorite comic written by Neil Gaiman. “The Sandman” received an overwhelming 78 percent of the vote, followed by “The Books of Magic” with 6 percent, and Gaiman and Mark Buckingham’s “Miracleman” at 4 percent.
