In case you missed it, author J.W. Rinzler, known for the New York Times bestselling series The Making of Star Wars as well as the Dark Horse Comics series “The Star Wars,” passed away at the age of 58. We also have an exclusive preview of next week’s “Runaways” #38.

– As part of the upcoming storyline ‘The Death of Doctor Strange,’ Marvel Comics will be releasing “The Death of Doctor Strange: White Fox” #1 this November. The one-shot will be written by Alyssa Wong with art by Andie Tong, and follows the titular White Fox, who is forced to go on the run when she fits the profile of a murder suspect. Now, she’ll have to clear her name and solve the mystery of her own origin while running across both Sword Master and Tiger Division. In addition to the main cover by R1C0, the one-shot will feature a variant cover by Peach Momoko.

– FX has unveiled the first full trailer for the upcoming Y: The Last Man television series. The show is set to launch on September 13, and stars Diane Lane, Ben Schnetzer, and Olivia Thirlby, among others. The story follows a man named Yorick, who suddenly becomes the last man alive on the planet after nearly every other creature with a Y chromosome dies overnight. The show is based on the acclaimed “Y: The Last Man” comic book series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra. Y: The Last Man will launch with a two-episode premiere via FX on Hulu.

– DC and Warner Bros. Games have launched DC: Batman Bat-Tech Edition, a mobile augmented reality app that allows players to join Batman’s fight against crime. The game, which is currently available on both the App store and on Google Play, brings players into the story as a member of the Knightwatch. The game provides a 3D player experience, in addition to mini-games, AR filters, and an exclusive “Batman – Knightwatch” comic book only available through the app itself. The game is free to play and recommended for ages 9 and up.

– Disney has confirmed that Star Wars: The Bad Batch will be returning for a second season in 2022. Disney+ President Michael Paull said, “Fans have enthusiastically embraced the action and drama of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and we are excited to see the Star Wars animated universe continue to expand on Disney+.” The series takes place in the aftermath of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and follows a rogue squadron of clones as they try to escape the clutches of the evil Empire. Actor Dee Bradley Baker stars as all of the different clones in the series, reprising his role from Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

– Writer Magdalene Visaggio, known for her work on “Eternity Girl,” “Kim & Kim,” and “Vagrant Queen,” has created a GoFundMe to assist her living expenses in the wake of COVID-19. Visaggio is an Eisner Award and GLAAD Award-nominated writer who has had her income derailed by the global pandemic and the numerous delays in the publishing industry. She is known for her exceptional representation of the LGBTQ+ community. Anybody interested in contributing to her GoFundMe can do so here.

– The New York Mets will be teaming up with Marvel Comics to celebrate infielder Pete Alonso in an upcoming series of promotions. First, on August 12, the first 15,000 fans attending the New York Mets vs. Washington Nationals baseball game at Citi Field will receive a “Polar Bear Pete Alonso Super Hero” comic book. The next day, the first 25,000 fans who attend the New York Mets vs. Los Angeles Dodgers game will get a commemorative Polar Bear Pete Alonso Super Hero bobblehead. This partnership represents the first time that a member of the New York Mets is turned into an original superhero in their own comic, although Pete Alonso was on the guest list for the X-Men’s recent Hellfire Gala celebrity event (and was consequentially drawn into an issue of the series).

– Square Peg and A24 have announced that they will be developing “The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Cartoonist” into an animated series. “The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Cartoonist” was a graphic memoir written and drawn by Adrian Tomine, which was well-received upon its release in 2020. Tomine is also the author behind “Killing & Dying,” which was adapted into the recent film Paris, 13th District, as well as “Shortcomings,” which is currently being developed for Roadside Productions with actor Randall Park set to direct.

– Finally, Nicole Scherzinger, the singer/dancer/host known for her work in the Pussycat Dolls and on The Masked Singer, will be playing the role of Grace Farrell in the upcoming NBC production of Annie Live! The special is based on the “Little Orphan Annie” comic strip created by Harold Gray, and will be premiering on December 2. Besides being one of the most recognized comic strip characters of her era, “Annie” has been adapted in multiple films and musical productions, with the role of Grace Farrell previously being played in film by Rose Byrne and Ann Reinking. There is no casting for Annie herself at this time.
