– At the Official Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas, IDW revealed details on its forthcoming Star Trek: Discovery tie-in, which is a four-issue limited series focusing on the Klingon characters. Discovery writer Kirsten Beyer is co-writing the series with Mike Johnson and it will be drawn by Tony Shasteen (“Star Trek: Boldly Go”). The first issue, which depicts Chris Obi as the Klingon lead T’Kuvma on the cover, goes on sale in October.
– DC have unveiled lenticular covers for September’s issues of “Action Comics,” specifically #987 and #988, which can viewed in action at CBR. ComicBook.com also have variant covers by Neil Edwards (“Assassin’s Creed”) for both issues.
– Inker Richard Friend reported on Facebook (via Bleeding Cool) that the original artwork for John Romita Jr.’s “Dark Nights: Metal” #2 variant cover has gone missing in the post. Fearing it may have been stolen, he has put out an appeal to any fan to report if the artwork shows up for sale anywhere online.
– Deadline reports Studio 8 has acquired the film rights to the Black Mask Studios series, “Black.” The series, created by Kwanza Osajyefo and Tim Smith III and drawn by Jamal Igle (“Molly Danger”), depicts a world where only black people possess superpowers.
– James Gunn has been doing the rounds for the digital release of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on Tuesday. In particular, he told Cinema Blend Marvel disagreed with him about the credits scene setting up Adam Warlock’s introduction in (the “probably” titled) Vol. 3, as they feared fans would conclude he was in Avengers: Infinity War. In the meantime, Gunn has released the groovy music video for “Guardians Inferno,” while Entertainment Weekly have obtained the film’s blooper reel, which reveal Sylvester Stallone cannot pronounce the word “Ravager.”
– Marvel’s next film, Thor: Ragnarok, is the cover story for Empire #340, and the film magazine has unveiled the subscribers’ cover drawn by Russell Dauterman (“The Mighty Thor”).
– Sydelle Noel has been cast in the sixth season of Arrow. She will play Samanda Watson, an FBI agent investigating Oliver Queen’s connections to the Green Arrow. Noel can currently be seen on Netflix’s GLOW, and also has a role in Marvel’s Black Panther. Meanwhile, Simon Merrells (Crassus on Spartacus) has been cast as Julius Caesar on Legends of Tomorrow.
– Jeff Ward has been cast in a recurring role on season five of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Deadline says to expect his character will be part of a “major multi-episode arc”. Speaking of the show, Chloe Bennet posted a video on Instagram (via CBR) of her and co-stars goofing on set that inadvertently shows an extra in blue make-up, indicating the Kree are returning this season.
