In case you missed it, DC announced “Wonder Woman: Evolution,” “Dark Knights of Steel,” and “Infinite Frontier’s” second act, “Justice League Incarnate.” We also have an exclusive preview of next week’s “Black Cat” #9.

– Chip Zdarksy is the latest creator to announce he will be releasing comics exclusive to Substack, the newsletter publisher currently expanding into creator-owned comics. The award-winning writer/artist joins a slew of fellow creators on the platform, including James Tynion IV, Jonathan Hickman, Scott Snyder, Ram V, Molly Ostertag, Saladin Ahmed, and Skottie Young. Zdarksy plans to revive “Kaptara,” the Image series he created with artist Kagan McLeod, for the platform. He also plans to both write and draw original series “Public Domain.” Finally, Zdarsky plans to donate a portion of the money he earns from subscribers to charity Rainbow Railroad, which helps LGBTQ+ individuals fleeing persecution in their home countries.

– Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender adaptation has announced its principle cast and showrunner. Former Sleepy Hollow producer Albert Kim takes over the series from original series creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, who left last year over creative differences. The Stand’s Gordon Cormier will portray Aang, the titular Avatar, and last of the Air Nomads. Kiawentiio (Rutherford Falls) and Ian Ousley (Physical) will portray Katara and Sokka, the teenage members of the Water Tribe who discover the frozen Aang, while Dallas Liu (Shang-Chi, Pen15) plays the exiled Fire Nation prince Zuko. “This was a chance to showcase Asian and Indigenous characters as living, breathing people,” Kim said of the series. “Not just in a cartoon, but in a world that truly exists, very similar to the one we live in.”

Venom: Let There Be Carnage has been delayed again thanks to the surging COVID-19 Delta variant. The sequel to 2018’s Venom, starring Tom Hardy as the symbiotic anti-hero, will now hit US theaters on October 15, three weeks after its previous September 24 release date.

– Nickelodeon’s CG animated revival of The Smurfs now has a trailer and premiere date. The new series will debut on Friday, Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT, and the trailer can be viewed here. The Smurfs (French: Les Schtroumpfs) were created by Belgian cartoonist Pierre “Peyo” Culliford in 1958, and the new show already premiered in Belgium earlier this year. Its US premiere will mark the 40th anniversary of the Hanna-Barbera series, which first aired on NBC on September 12, 1981.

– To celebrate the second anniversary of the streaming service, Disney+ will celebrate Disney+ Day on November 12. In honor of the occasion, Disney will reveal both the Jeremy Renner-led Hawkeye series and Mandalorian spin-off The Book of Boba Fett, among others. Hawkeye is set to debut 12 days later on November 24, with Book of Boba Fett premiering this December.

– Finally, the #DisneyMustPay Joint Task Force has expanded its outreach, asking comic book and graphic novel creators to come forward with stories of missing royalty statements and payments from Disney and its associated companies. “Writers, artists, illustrators, letterers, and other artists are valued members of the creative teams that produce art and literature that is enjoyed by millions,” Task Force Chair Mary Robinette Kowal said in a statement. “We are inviting these talented artists to share their stories and we will fight for them to receive the money that is owed to them.” Creators missing royalties can submit a form found here, provided by the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America. Additional information can be found at writersmustbepaid.org.
