– DC has announced “Punchline,” a new 48-page one-shot for November, exploring the origins of Joker’s “new field general.” The special is written by “Batman” scribe James Tynion IV and Sam Johns (DC’s “Crimes of Passion”) with art by Mirka Andolfo (“Mercy”), and covers by Yasmine Putri and Frank Cho. It goes on sale November 10.

– DC has also revealed early solicitations for November’s “Dark Knights: Death Metal” #5, which sees the Darkest Knight conquering the Multiverse, as well as two new tie-in one-shots: “Dark Nights: Death Metal – Infinite Hour Exxxtreme,” which features retellings of classic DC stories from the POV of Lobo, and “Dark Nights: Death Metal – The Multiverse Who Laughs,” an anthology of several tales featuring different worlds across the Dark Multiverse, including one populated by evil Super-Pets.

– The recipients of the 2020 Inkwell Awards, which honors excellence in the art of comic book inking, have been announced online, in lieu of their usual annual ceremony at the COVID-19-canceled Great Philadelphia Comic-Con. The awards honor multiple categories for comic book inking, and induct acclaimed inkers into the Joe Sinnott Hall of Fame. This year’s Favorite Inker was Walden Wong of DC’s “Justice League.”

– The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund has a new interim Director: Jeff Trexler, a member of the Ethics Committee at Kering Americas, will serve in the post Charles Brownstein was compelled to vacate in June, after renewed focus on an alleged 2005 sexual assault. Trexler has previously been on the board of the Museum of Comics and Cartoon Art, and was also associate director of the Fashion Law Institute, where he advised government officials on sexual harassment legal reform. The CBLDF selected Trexler unanimously after a “thorough interview process.”

– Disney XD and DisneyNOW have announced premiere dates for a couple of their returning series. Big Hero 6: The Series season three will debut on Monday, September 21 at 7:30 p.m. EDT/PDT. Each episode of the new season will feature two 11-minute stories following the Big Hero 6 team as they protect San Fransokyo from Noodle Burger Boy and his team of evil mascot robots. DuckTales season three will also premiere the first of its new cycle of episodes the same day.

– Meanwhile, Disney+ has announced a November 17 premiere for The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special, which brings back the sequel trilogy’s Rey, Finn, Rose, and Poe Dameron, to celebrate Life Day, the in-universe holiday introduced in the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special that first aired in 1978. As with previous Lego Specials, this new entry will feature animated building-block versions of characters from throughout Star Wars history.

– Australian scientists have named a newly-discovered series of robber flies after classic Marvel icons, including Deadpool and Stan Lee himself. Stan’s fly is named Daptolestes leei, inspired by the insect’s markings which resemble Lee’s iconic sunglasses and white mustache. Deadpool inspired an entirely new genus name (a step up from species) for his fly, which has markings on its back that resemble Deadpool’s mask: Humorolethalis sergius, which translates to “wet” (humorosos) and “deadly” (lethalis).

– Japanese anime content providers Toei Animation and Kodansha have banded together with others to start the Animelog, or Anilog, channel on YouTube. Their goal is to have 30 companies supplying 3,000 anime titles by 2022, and to reach 300 million views per month. The target audience for the channel is currently local, but there are also plans to add subtitled content in English and Chinese for overseas fans.

– Finally, after months of fan speculation over whether Marvel’s Spider-Man from Insomniac Games and the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers from Square Enix will share a universe, Marvel Games head Bill Rosemann has an answer. “Each game is in the Marvel universe, but they’re in their own reality, if you will,” Rosemann told Entertainment Weekly. “Currently, our plan is to keep each game set in its own Marvel universe.” Rosemann further explained that this gives the studios freedom in developing games, adding that he will also attend meetings for each game, giving feedback to ensure each game has that “Marvel feel.”
