In case you missed it, Joss Whedon confirmed “Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 12: The Reckoning” is Dark Horse’s final comic based on the series. DC Comics are offering a brand new collection of winter solstice stories to coincide with the Holiday season – albeit with a twist. The “DC Nuclear Winter Special” #1 will feature original work from Steve Orlando, Paul Dini, Cully Hamner and Phil Hester (to name just a few) featuring ten post-apocalyptic spins on DC’s heroes and villains at the end of the year. As DC notes in their announcement, “What can we say? It’s been a crazy year, so why not finish it off with some ‘fa-la-la-la-las’ in the fallout shelter?” The anthology will be in DC’s bookshelf/prestige format and is scheduled for a November 28th release date.

– Via press release, DC also provided some of the details surrounding this year’s Batman Day celebration. The fifth annual Batman Day will be held September 15th, and according to DC, fans at participating retailers will receive a reprint of the first issue, of Sean Murphy’s “Batman: White Knight,” now with a preview of Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo’s “Batman: Damned,” while younger fans can get the first issue of “Batman: A Lot of Li’l Gotham.” DC also promised a variety of options for retailers, including an online activity kit. Additional information is available at the DC Comics website.

– Matthew Rosenberg reports via Twitter that writer James C. Maddox was involved in a serious car accident. According to Rosenberg, “Good guy & good writer @jamescmaddox was in a pretty bad car accident yesterday. He’s in the hospital but going to be ok. I’m sure that he and his family could use some $ though. Maybe pick up some of his stuff from @comiXology to help out?”

BleedingCool.com reports that comic book writer Gerard Jones was sentenced to a six year stay in federal prison for distributing and possessing child pornography. Jones had a long and varied career in comics, writing titles such as “Green Lantern,” “Justice League” and “Hulk 2099” as well as The Comic Book Heroes, an acclaimed book on comics history co-written with Will Jacobs. Will Jacobs, James Hudnall and Mike W. Barr were also amongst the creators who wrote letters defending Jones’s character in the early stages of the trial (before Jones changed his plea to guilty). In addition to serving a six year term, Jones is required to pay an unspecified amount of monetary restitution to the multiple victims.

Pew Center Arts are reporting on a new graphic novel entitled “Black Lives Have Always Mattered.” The project is being released through Temple University’s Charles L. Blockson Afro-American Collection and will depict stories of “talent, courage, and achievement from the 20th-century African American Philadelphians.” The graphic novel will be a collaboration between writer Dr. Sheena C. Howard, and illustrator Eric Battle (“Antar: The Black Knight”), who will serve as art director/curator, charged with recruiting artists for the project.

Deadline.com is reporting that Jesse Williams (Grey’s Anatomy) and Jordana Brewster (The Fast and the Furious) will star in Jay Baruchel’s horror film Random Acts of Violence. Baruchel is writing, directing and co-starring in the movie, which is adapted from the graphic novel by Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray, Giancarlo Caracuzzo and Paul Mounts.

Deadline is also reporting that child actor Jaylin Fletcher (The Female Brain) has joined the cast of TNT’s Snowpiercer as a series regular. The show, based on Bong Joon-ho’s 2013 film (which was in turn adapted from a French graphic novel), also stars Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs.

– Telltale Games have revealed the release dates for the rest of The Walking Dead: The Final Season, confirming the four-part video game will conclude on December 18th. You can view the game’s schedule here.
