– Variety has exclusively announced Legendary Entertainment have acquired the worldwide rights to the acclaimed Oni Press graphic novel “My Boyfriend is a Bear,” written by Pamela Ribon and illustrated by Cat Farris. Ribon will be attached to the screenplay, and executive produce with Alex Hertzberg. The story follows “Nora, who, after a succession of terrible boyfriends, finds true love with the most unexpected of suitors: a 500-pound American Black bear. They’ll soon discover that hipster neighbors, judgmental friends, and Bear’s impending need for hibernation will put their relationship to the ultimate test.” Pamela Ribon was named one of Variety’s 10 screenwriters to watch.
– Brain Michael Bendis has apologized on Twitter for featuring a villain using the word “autistic” as a slur in “Action Comics” #1002. He has made sure the future copies of the issue will not feature the slur, stating “I called my editor [and] told them to make sure it’s not in any other printings. It won’t be in the trade. Language is tough. When trying to be real you can be hurtful. You know it wasn’t my intention [and] you helped me see a way to fix it. Thank you.” This comes as the word “autistic” has been used more and more as a demeaning put-down in recent years.
– “Tony Stark: Iron Man” issues #4 to #6 have been pushed back. Marvel Comics have released the new solicited dates: “Iron Man” #4 will now be released October 3, #5 releases October 17 and #6 will go to November 21. #7 was solicited for November, however this is most likely to be moved as well, as this now over laps with #6. Marvel or Dan Slot have yet to comment on the rescheduling.
– In more Marvel news, “Moon Knight” writer Max Bemis has announced on Twitter that October’s issue #200 will end his run on the title. Artist Jacen Burrows also announced that he was departing with issue #200. It is not known whether this will mean the end of Bemis’s run will be the end of the title itself, though it was absent from November’s solicits.
– Deadline.com reports Timothy V. Murphy (Sons of Anarchy), Happy Anderson (Bright) and Johnathan Lloyd Walker (Van Helsing) will be joining TNT’s Snowpiecer in recurring roles. “Snowpiecer is set seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, it centers on the remnants of humanity, who inhabit a gigantic, perpetually moving train that circles the globe. Class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival are questioned in this riveting television adaptation.”
– PlayStation 4 and Xbox One users looking forward to playing Overkill Software’s The Walking Dead game will have to wait a little longer to get their hands on the game, as they have pushed back the release date to February 8, 2019. The PC version will still be released November 6, 2018.
– Collider have learned that Kornèl Mundruczó (White God) is in talks to direct Inherit the Earth for Sony and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes. The project, based on IDW’s “Zombies vs. Robots,” has undergone major changes since its announcement, including Mundruzó’s wife now penning a new draft of the script.
