In case you missed it, DC announced “Teen Titans: Beast Boy Loves Raven,” a “Batman” limited series by John Ridley and Nick Derington, and a revival of the Milestone Comics imprint. We rounded up the rest of the big announcements and reveals from DC FanDome here.
– Marvel Comics announced that they will be collecting a host of Alien comic books in “Aliens Omnibus Volume 1.” The collection will include “Aliens” (1988) #1-6, “Aliens” (1989) #1-4 and more. Mark A. Nelson will be providing the cover art for the direct market edition of the collection, with Greg Land providing the main cover. The comics were originally published by Dark Horse Comics, but will be reprinted by Marvel following their acquisition of the comic book licenses for both the Alien and Predator franchises in July. You can see the full list of comics the collection will contain here.
– Dark Horse Comics revealed the cover for the upcoming “Cuphead Volume 2: Cartoon Chronicles & Calamities” by writer Zack Keller and artist Shawn Dickinson. The volume and its cover both include the new playable character for the Cuphead video game, Ms. Chalice, who has yet to debut in the game as a result of the ‘The Delicious Last Course’ DLC being delayed by COVID-19. The description for the volume teases Cuphead, Mugman, and Ms. Chalice being in a “plethora of peculiar positions and side stories in the all-cartoon magical wonderworld of the Inkwell Isles.” “Cuphead Volume 2: Cartoon Chronicles & Calamities” is scheduled for release on March 2, 2021. You can see the cover over at The Beat.
– Dark Horse Comics also rescheduled “The Witcher: Fading Memories” #1 for November 25, and shared a new variant cover by Jeremy Wilson to celebrate. The four-part miniseries by writer Bartosz Sztybor and artist Amad Mir was announced in March with a June release date, but was delayed by coronavirus’s impact on the publishing industry. “Fading Memories” will see Geralt struggling to work following the decline in monster threats, and travelling to the town of Towitz where foglets are kidnapping children, only to uncover something much larger afoot. The Wilson cover can be seen over at ComicBook.com.
– Prism Comics, Queer Comics Expo, and the Cartoon Art Museum announced that this year’s Prism Awards will be held as part of a two-day live stream celebration on September 19 and 20 from 2-5pm PDT. In the build-up to the awards ceremony, panels will be held by the finalists and judges. The awards celebrate the comic work of queer authors, and fiction and non-fiction stories that feature “diverse, powerful, innovative, positive or challenging” LGBTQIA+ representation. You can check out the full list of nominees for each category and the judges here.
– Michael Goldman, the founder of Motor City Comic Con, announced that this year’s iteration of the event has been cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak. The Con had previously been postponed in April and moved from its May 15-17 dates in the hope it could be rescheduled. Goldman stated “It is heartbreaking for us to cancel our show for this year, but our priority is the health and wellbeing of fans, partners, artists, vendors, volunteers and team members. Motor City Comic Con appreciates the support and understanding from all and we look forward to coming back in 2021, with a convention that is better than ever.” Motor City Comic Con 2021 is scheduled to take place on May 14-16, 2021, at the Suburban Collection Showplace.
– Fortnite and Marvel started releasing an in-game comic ahead of a full tie-in event, based on Donny Cates and Nic Klein’s current “Thor” run. The in-game comic is by writer Donny Cates, artist Jay Leisten, and colorist Frank D’Armata. Cates tweeted that the tie-in comic is “ripped right from of the pages of our first ‘Thor’ arc ‘The Devourer King,'” which concluded with “Thor” #6 last week. The first two parts of the tie-in are currently available in Fortnite, with the fourth season of Fortnite due to start on August 27.
Continued below– CBC Books announced that they are adapting the anthology graphic novel, “This Place,” into a 10-part podcast series hosted by Rosanna Deerchild. “This Place” explores the 150-years of Canadian history since Confederation from the perspective of the Indigenous, with some of the stories including elements of fantasy and magical realism. The host of creators who contributed to the anthology include David A. Roberson, Tara Audibert, and Natasha Donovan. Deerchild will be working with a team of Indigenous writers and audio producers on the podcast, which is scheduled to air on CBC Radio One in 2021.
– Warner Bros. Animation revealed there are four DC Animated films scheduled for 2021:
Justice Society: World War II is scheduled for the Spring of 2021, with the two parts of Batman: The Long Halloween due in Summer and Fall of 2021. Specific release dates and full voice casts are expected closer to release.
– Netflix cancelled I Am Not Okay With This after one season. The series, which is an adaptation of Charles Forsman’s comic of the same name, hadn’t officially been renewed, but was picked up behind-the-scenes, with scripts written, and had been awaiting the start of production. The decision was a result of the uncertainty over when production would begin, due to COVID-19. Season one followed a teenager girl called Sydney (Sophia Lillis), as she navigates high school whilst dealing with her complex family life, sexuality, and mysterious superpowers.
– Finally, Multiversity’s very own Elias Rosner unveiled his webcomic, “Blink Once For Yes,” with artist Rosie Cerrone. “Blink Once For Yes” will follow Katerina, an artist, for whom art is “her livelihood, her passion. Her love.” The description teases that if you “stare too deeply into the abyss of the things you love and you just might find it staring back at you.” The series will be released weekly, starting on August 27, on Comic Fury and Tapas.
