– BOOM! Studios announced a new “BRZRKR” one-shot, “BRZRKR: Fallen Empire,” written by Keanu Reeves and Mattson Tomlin, with art by Rebekah Isaacs (“Money Shot”) and Joelle Jones on colors. Due out November 29, the comic will depict the immortal B.’s time “among the people of the forgotten Olos Empire, revealing how he found fleeting love, and somehow became the destroyer of an entire civilization.” It marks the second “BRZRKR” special, after July’s “Poetry of Madness,” and Tomlin’s second collaboration with Reeves, following the film version of the series he had been drafting for Netflix.
– Drawn & Quarterly will publish Shortcomings: A Screenplay, an annotated edition of Adrian Tomine’s script for Randall Park’s indie comedy early next year. The screenplay, adapted by Tomine from his own graphic novel, will be presented in its final draft, along with “commentary, and bonuses including deleted and alternate scenes. This gorgeously-designed volume is supplemented with film stills, behind-the-scenes photos, and also includes an introduction by Park and a new, original comic from Tomine.”
– In Marvel news, details were released on Alyssa Wong and Jan Bazaldua’s upcoming “Captain Marvel” relaunch (starting October 25), revealing that Carol — like her mentor Mar-Vell, and in The Marvels — will become quantum entangled with a new sidekick, Yuna Yang. The company also disclosed Melissa Flores and Enid Balám’s Spider-Gwen series has been retitled “Spider-Gwen: Smash.” The four-parter, originally announced at San Diego Comic-Con as “Spider-Gwen: On Tour,” will begin December 14.
– Black Panel Press announced “Conquest: Julius Caesar’s Gallic War,” by Tarek Ben Yakhlef and Vincent Pompetti. An adaptation of Caesar’s own first-person account, Commentaries on the Gallic War, the hardcover, watercolor graphic novel will chronicle the Roman leader’s conquest of Western Europe from 58 to 52 BC. It will retail for $29.99 on January 16, 2024.
– Via Bleeding Cool, Warner Bros. will mark Batman Day (as well as their 100th anniversary) in the UK with a pop-up exhibit in Piccadilly, London, during the weekend of September 16. The exhibit, called Batman Unmasked, will let visitors read over 100 comics, including “Batman/Catwoman: Prelude to Gotham War,” and showcase costumes, props and vehicles from the films. Tickets go on sale tomorrow, with walk-in entry available each day on a limited basis. For more details, visit See Tickets.
– Did you see Blue Beetle, and were left wondering where that stop-motion footage of El Chapulín Colorado (including the post-credits scene) came from? Turns out it was animated by Acho Studio, a stop-motion company founded by Quique Rivera, whose credits also include Big Mouth, and the Yo Magic commercial in WandaVision. You can check out a promo Acho did, as well as photos featuring their versions of Jaime Reyes and the Red Grasshopper together on Instagram.
– Finally, Nightdive Studios are remastering two classic FPS games in 4K: 2000’s Nintendo 64 release Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion, and 1995’s Kyle Katarn debut, Star Wars: Dark Forces. Turok 3 will be released on PC, Xbox and PlayStation consoles, and Nintendo Switch on November 14, while Dark Forces’ release date (on the same platforms) will be announced at a later time. Nightdive, who specialize in remastering old games, previously rereleased the first two Turok games from the late 1990s in 2017; they marked the first game releases for the classic Dell Comics character since the 2008 reboot, which never received a sequel after Disney shuttered developer Propaganda Games in 2011.
