In case you missed it, Tom King and Peter Gross are reimagining Orwell with “Animal Pound.” We also have exclusive previews of ”Star Wars: Bounty Hunters” #37, and “Simulation Theory” #2.

– Kevin Smith will write “Quick Stop II” for Dark Horse Comics. Set in the director’s “Askewniverse,” the same world as his View Askew films, the book will tell the story of Nancy Goodruff, the creator of Mooby the Golden Calf from Dogma. Unlike the first miniseries, it will follow a single storyline, where “a young podcaster tries to milk Mooby creator Nancy Goldruff for the bovine’s beginnings, only to meat a cow tale so shocking, it turns her brain to hamburger!” Ahmed Raafat provides art with Andrew Thomas on letters. Issue #1 hits shelves November 22, 2023.
– Dark Horse and Dogu Publishing are rereleasing the first Space Usagi series from 1992. “Space Usagi: Death and Honor” features writing, art, and lettering from Sakai, but with brand new colors from Emi Fuji, and cover art from Sweeney Boo. It follows space fleet general Usagi (a descendant of “Usagi Yojimbo” lead Miyamoto Usagi) as he protects his lord, and heir to the Shirohoshi Clan. Issue #1 (of 3) will be available on November 15, 2023. It will be preceded by the one-shot “Space Usagi: Yokai Hunter” on October 11.
– Lastly, Count Crowley is returning to Dark Horse in the third volume of her camp horror series, “Count Crowley: Mediocre Midnight Monster Hunter.” This volume will follow monster hunter Jerri Bartman, still grieving after the death of her werewolf friend, as she tracks a child snatcher in Beloit. David Dastmalchian writes the book, with art from Lukas Ketner, and a variant cover from Francesco Francavila. Issue #1 (of 4) hits shelves November 8.
– Comics journalist Calvin Reid will be the recipient of CXC’s third annual Tom Spurgeon Award. Reid recently retired from the position of Senior Editor at Publishers Weekly, and editor of PW Comics World Online. He also edited the Fanatic newsletter and continues to host the More to Come podcast. ICv2 had previously called Reid a key figure in the growth of the graphic novel.
– The second volume of Michelle Fus’s hit YA webcomic, “Ava’s Demon Book Two: Aftermath,” will be getting a print release from Skybound Comet next May. The new volume picks up immediately after the events of the last (“Reborn”), after Ava discovered a new power during her escape from TITAN HQ. The original was one of the most successful crowdfunding efforts of all time, raising close to $1.2 million over two Kickstarters.
– “Oba Electroplating Factory” by Yoshiharu Tsuge (translated by Ryan Holmberg) will be one of Drawn & Quarterly’s new Spring 2024 titles. Originally published between 1973 and 1974, the semi-autobiographical manga explores life in mid-century Japan through the eyes of the artist protagonist.
– Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen Part Two will soon be available on Blu-ray and 4K on October 31, 2023. The animated feature follows the first Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen, where the heroes of the DC Universe crossed over with the hit web series from Rooster Teeth. New cast members will include Jamie Chung as Black Canary, David Dastmalchian as the Flash, Laura Bailey as Wonder Woman, Troy Baker as Batman, and Travis Willingham as Superman.
– The newest update to Apple Watch (watchOS 10) will come complete with 148 animations featuring the cast of “Peanuts.” During a press conference at San Diego Comic-Con, Apple and Peanuts Worldwide spoke about the new animations, with moderator and beta tester Damien Holbrook saying he had barely seen any of them twice. Some of these animations include Snoopy surfing on a wave Woodstock nesting on the arms of the clock. No specific date has been announced, but the company’s next big event is Tuesday, September 7.
– Finally, Legendary Comics launched a Kickstarter for “Gundam Breaker Battlogue: New Build,” which, if successfully crowdfunded, will become the first Gundam graphic novel ever produced outside of Japan. The book is intended as a continuation of a six-part anime miniseries from 2021, and is being written by series veteran Nobuo Masuda, with Nelson Daniel on art.
