In case you missed it, several big announcements were made at this weekend’s D23 Expo, including movie news and new streaming series coming to Disney+.

— Speaking of D23… Marvel Comics Editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort unveiled “Incoming,” the one-shot that will supposedly shape the future of Marvel Comics into 2020 and beyond. It will debut this December 2019, with more details coming in the future.

— A new exhibit was added to Walt Disney Presents at Disney’s Hollywood Studios featuring the art of Jack Kirby. Titled “Jack Kirby: The Man Behind The Eternals,” it includes a replica of Kirby’s desk and a first issue of “The Eternals,” among other things. If you can’t make it out to California to see it in person, WDW News Today has several pictures and a full video walkthrough of the exhibit.

— Disney Parks revealed a whole slew of new attractions to be featured at their parks and resorts, including The Avengers Campus, a Marvel-inspired expansion to Disney California Adventure and Disneyland Paris that will open in 2020. There’s also a Guardians of the Galaxy pavilion coming to Epcot, and details about a new, immersive Star Wars vacation experience at Walt Disney World Resort.

— Marvel announced two new animated series. The first, Spidey and His Amazing Friends, is geared towards preschoolers, and will debut in 2021 as the first full-length Marvel Series for the Disney Junior audience. The second is Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, an original series based on the hit comic book that follows the adventures of 13-year old super-genius Lunella Lafayette, and her T-Rex, Devil Dinosaur.

— Ming-Na Wen will play an as yet unnamed role in The Mandalorian, according to Disney CEO Bob Iger. Actress Natalia Tena and comedian Bill Burr have also confirmed on Twitter that they are part of the series’ cast. The show debuts on the Disney+ streaming service November 12, 2019.

Now for non-Disney announcements:

— IDW has canceled “Narcos” indefinitely after it was previously postponed from its original April 2019 debut date. The four-issue miniseries based on the popular Netflix show was to be created by Ryan Ferrier and Vic Malhotra. IDW did not give a reason for the postponement, but apparently intends to re-solicit it in the future.

— Activist and author George M. Johnson has signed a book deal with Lee & Low Books imprint Tu Books for his “Stonewall” graphic novel, which focuses on the history of the LGBTQ+ movement and its roots in the Stonewall Riots. Illustrated by Theo Lorenz, the young readers title is set to debut in 2022.

— TKO Studios announced their next wave of comics will be released in October. They include books by Jeff Lemire, Roxane Gay, Gabriel Walta, Ming Doyle, and more.

Joker will receive an R-rating for what the Motion Picture Association of America describes as “strong bloody violence, disturbing behavior, language, and brief sexual images.” The movie starring Joaquin Phoenix will make its theatrical debut this October.

— Andrew Koji (Cinemax’s Warrior) has been cast as the character Storm Shadow in Snake Eyes, the “G.I. Joe” movie spinoff directed by Robert Schwentke. With an October 6, 2020 release date, the film will focus on the origins of (you guessed it) Snake Eyes, played by Henry Golding, as he seeks to join the Arashikage Clan.

— Finally, Deadline reports that comedian Steve Agee will be joining James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad sequel. Agee will provide the voiceover for super-villain and humanoid, King Shark. Also joining the cast is Nathan Fillion, whose character details have yet to be released.
