– The 2018 nominees for The Small Press Expo’s Ignatz Awards have been announced. The awards have recognized outstanding work in independent comics and cartoons since 1997. For the full list of nominees, click here.

– Dark Horse has announced The Art of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a new 184-page hardcover art book about Nickelodeon’s 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TV series. The book is set to release April 16, 2019 and will feature exclusive art for the show, insider commentary, and an introduction by co-creator Kevin Eastman.

– The Cartoonists Rights Network International has awarded Nicaraguan cartoonist Pedro X. Molina with the annual Courage in Editorial Cartooning award. Molina was awarded by the CRNI for continuing his work regarding the deteriorating state of his country, “despite all the unrest and direct threats and attempts at intimidation by masked paramilitaries working for the regime,” their statement read. – Deadline reports that Alec Baldwin has joined the cast of Todd Philips’s Joker movie with Joaquin Phoenix. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed he will play Thomas Wayne, the father of Bruce Wayne. Baldwin is the latest high-profile actor to join the movies cast with Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, and Marc Maron having all been announced earlier this year.

The Hollywood Reporter announced that Ryan Hurst has been cast to play Beta on AMC’s The Walking Dead. In the comics, Beta acts as lieutenant for a group called the Whisperers and is known for his stoic nature and intense physicality. Hurst is best known for his role as Opie Winston on the FX series, Sons of Anarchy.

– In anticipation of John Constantine’s inclusion as a regular on Season 4 of The CW’s Legends of Tomorrow, the animated series Constantine: The Legend Continues will be broadcast for the first time on The CW as an hour-long special this October. The series previously aired on The CW’s digital service, CW Seed, earlier this year as Constantine: City of Demons. The special will be hosted by actor Matt Ryan, who plays John Constantine in the animated show as well as on Legends of Tomorrow, and will air Monday, Oct. 15, immediately following the season premiere of Arrow.
