– BOOM! Studios announced “Book of Slaughter,” a one-shot from the “Something is Killing the Children” creative team of James Tynion IV, Werther Dell’Edera, Miquel Muerto, and AndWorld Design. It is the first one-shot in the Slaughterverse, consisting of “Killing the Children” and “House of Slaughter,” and will set up future events in both titles. The story will follow the White Mask, Maxine Slaughter, as she finds herself torn between her loyalty to the Order of St. George, and “her true colors.” The special also includes a “sizable guidebook that delves into the deep lore of the Order.” It will be released sometime in December.
– Marvel launched two new Infinity Comics, “X-Men: Hellfire Gala Confessionals,” and “X-Men Unlimited” #50: ‘Secret X-Men Arc.’ Both written by Steve Foxe with art by Alan Robinson, the comics respectively follow the candidates of this year’s X-Men vote as they react to the results in “real time,” and the runner-ups in the immediate aftermath of the contest. They are available now on the Marvel Unlimited app, alongside this year’s “X-Men: Hellfire Gala 2022” special.
– Kyle Higgins revealed Image will publish “Supermassive 2” in April 2023. The one-shot will mark the second crossover in the Massive-Verse, which consists of the comics “Radiant Black,” “Rogue Sun,” “Radiant Red,” and “The Dead Lucky,” plus more upcoming titles. Higgins will co-write the book with Ryan Parrott, Mat Groom, and Melissa Flores, and it will feature art by Daniele Di Nicuolo, colors by Walter Baiamonte, and lettering by Becca Carey.
– In further Image news for 2023, the publisher will release an omnibus of “Bitter Root,” collecting all 16 issues of David Walker, Chuck Brown, and Sanford Greene’s Eisner-nominated series on February 22 (during Black History Month.) Meanwhile, Skybound’s YA line Comet will publish a new edition of Sean Kelley McKeever and Alexandre Tefenkgi’s sci-fi series “Outpost Zero” on April 25.
– Per an interview with The Cut, rapper (and real life tall woman) Megan Thee Stallion has a role in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. It was not disclosed who she was playing, or what episode she will appear in, with her presence only mentioned in passing in the final paragraph. Megan (full name Megan Jovon Ruth Pete) has previously acted on Good Girls and P-Valley. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law currently releases Thursdays on Disney+.
– Finally, Netflix and Japanese broadcaster Nippon TV have struck a global licensing deal for 13 of the channel’s most popular anime series, including Death Note, Hunter x Hunter, and Berserk. The first season of Hunter x Hunter, Claymore, and Ouran High School Host Club will be added first in over 100 countries outside the US on Friday, September 2; you can check out the expected release order, and what countries they will stream in, over on Variety. Netflix previously produced a live-action American film of Death Note, and are developing a TV version with Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer.
