– Marvel have announced “Unforgiven,” a new series of one-shots that will make up a three-part story, beginning with “Unforgiven: Spider-Man” #1. Written by Tim Seeley and drawn by Sid Kotian, the one-shots will follow the strange team of vampires, the Forgiven, as they confront a new foe bent on transforming vampires into their most powerful and violent selves. The story will then continue in “Unforgiven: X-Men” #1 and culminate with “Unforgiven: Avengers” #1. “Unforgiven: Spider-Man” #1 will feature a cover by Kyle Hotz and will be available in 2023. The Forgiven, a clan of vampire vigilantes at war with their evil natures, were created by Victor Gischler and Ryan Stegman, and first appeared in 2011’s “Fear Itself: Hulk vs. Dracula” #1.

– Via The Beat, comiXology announced the latest comiXology Original digital titles that will debut in print through Dark Horse as part of their ongoing partnership. First up, “The Final Girls,” from writer Cara Ellison, artist Sally Cantirino, colorist Gab Contreras, and letterer Joamette Gil, will be available April 4, 2023. Next up, sci-fi thriller “.Self,” written by Christopher Sebela, with art by Cara McGee, colors by Rebecca Nalty, and lettering from Aditya Bidikar, will debut May 2, 2023. The final book announced, “Red Tag,” is written by Rafael Scavone, illustrated by Roger Cruz, colored by Cris Peter, lettered by Bernardo Brice, and edited by Bis Stringer Horne, will be available May 23, 2023.

– Via IGN, Dark Horse also announced an extension of their deal with Roye Okupe’s Afrocentric imprint YouNeek Studios, including a new series titled “The Asiri,” which will be set in a separate universe from the main YouNeek YouNiverse. The series is described as a cross between X-Men and “Attack on Titan,” and will follow the conflict between a peaceful space king, “and his warmongering general, who also happens to be his closest friend.” Okupe will write the series, which will feature art by Samuel Iwunze, coloring by Toyin “Morby” Ajetunmobi, and lettering by Spoof Animation, plus cover art by Sunkanmi Akinboye and Etubi Onucheyo. It will begin sometime in April 2024.

– Via CBR, creator-first digital comics platform Zestworld is entering its beta phase, which includes a new website design, new free comics, as well as new creators. Additionally, subscribers can get early access to titles, behind-the-scenes reveals, invite-only events, and virtual drawing sessions. There’s also a chance to get your likeness featured in upcoming issues. Among the new creators are David Marquez, who will release a new comic, “The UnChosen,” exclusively on the platform. For a preview of “The UnChosen,” visit CBR.

– CBR also reports Tony Fleecs (“Stray Dogs”) has joined Skybound Entertainment’s “Dark Ride,” a new horror series from Josh Williamson, Andrei Bressan, and Adriano Lucas, as art director for a new classic homage poster variant cover program featured on the first four issues of the series. Each variant cover will homage a theatrical poster for a Disney film that inspired for the series. Issue #1’s cover homages The Little Mermaid and is drawn by Trish Forstner. Issue #2 sees Agnes Garbowska’s take on Beauty and the Beast. Issue #3’s cover will be drawn by Andy Price and take inspiration from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Finally, the cover to issue #4 will be a DuckTales homage by Dennis Culver. “Dark Ride” #1 will debut October 5, 2022.

– Via NPR, DC Comics is facing backlash due to their Hispanic Heritage Month variant covers. Some fans and creators say the covers, many of which feature DC superheros surrounded by, holding, or eating a variety of Latin American foods, are tasteless. Edgardo Miranda-Rodriguez, who has worked with DC in the past, said “I feel that it is incredibly tone-deaf — almost like a parody of our culture when we’re reduced down to food, you know? And [by] that, street food.” He continues by saying DC’s lack of awareness “is offensive, that it is tasteless. And it feels very exhausting.” Artist Jorge Molina also revealed, in June, that DC changed his cover featuring Kyle Rainer holding a Mexican flag to holding a Green Lantern Power Battery. DC says it plans to publish the original cover, however no other changes to the covers have been announced.
