– Drawn & Quarterly have announced “Club Microbe” by Elise Gravel. “Club Microbe” will teach young readers all about germs and microorganisms, showing that while some microbes make us sick, most are helpful that “allow us to digest food, make cheese, and even enable snowflakes to form in winter.” Other works from Gravel include “The Mushroom Fan Club” and “The Bug Club.” “Club Microbe” will be available in Spring 2024.
– Via ICv2, Manta have announced a webcomic adaptation of Lyssa Kay Adams’s popular romance novel The Bromance Book Club. The book follows a baseball player who turns to his book club for advice after he finds out his wife wants a divorce. The film rights to the novel have been acquired by Netflix. “The Bromance Book Club” will debut on Manta on Sunday, September 3. The creators of the comic itself were not announced.
– Throughout August, bonus one-page “G.O.D.S” stories have appeared in various Marvel titles, including “X-Men: Hellfire Gala,” “Amazing Spider-Man,” “Doctor Strange,” and “Fantastic Four.” Now, Marvel have made all 10 stories free to read on their website. Created by writer Jonathan Hickman with various artists, the comics show various new characters and elements from the upcoming series crossing paths with more familiar aspects of the Marvel Multiverse. “G.O.D.S.,” written by Hickman with art by Valerio Schiti, begins October 4.
– Image have revealed more character additions to November’s “Killadelphia” #31. Todd McFarlane’s Spawn, who made his debut in issue #30, will be joined by the likes of Blacula, Savage Dragon, and Count Dracula. Series creators Rodney Barnes and Jason Shawn Alexander previously used the character of Blacula in an original graphic novel, published at the start of the year. Additionally, on his Substack, Barnes announced “Florence and Normandie,” a collaboration with rapper/actor Xzibit. For more, head on over to Dark Apocrypha Presents.
– Via Kickstarter, the all-new Indie Comics Creator Con (IC3), a comic book convention focusing on creators and people who support independent art and ideas, will take place Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Southern Connecticut State University. The convention will be funded through the Kickstarter campaign. Rewards include tickets, convention posters as well as an IC3 pin. There will also be a limited number of lifetime passes, as well as the 2024 Indie Comics Yearbook, a 150+ page book celebrating indie creators from all over the world. – Marvel, in collaboration with Six to Start, have announced Marvel Move, a new interactive mobile fitness experience. Marvel Move will launch with five series: “Thor and Loki: Trials of the Ten Realms,” written by Alex Acks, “X-Men: Age of Orchis,” written by Tini Howard, and “The Hulk: Hulkville,” written by Matt Wieteska. New episodes will premiere monthly, and two more series will launch later in 2023, namely “Daredevil: Terminal Degree,” written by Bilal Dardai, and “Doctor Strange and Scarlet Witch: In Dreams,” written by Kim Richards. Marvel Move will be available on Six to Start’s mobile app, ZRX. Users can subscribe to Marvel Move for just $7.99 a month or $74.99 a year, with a free one-week trial.
– Finally, British first assistant director and producer Jamie Christopher died on Tuesday, August 29, following heart complications. He was 52. Christopher served as first AD on several MCU films shot in the UK, beginning with Thor: The Dark World, as well as Justice League, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Knives Out, and the Harry Potter films. He was credited as an associate producer on the MCU films he worked on, leading him to be promoted to executive producer on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the upcoming Fantastic Four.
